Unhappy Help needed with passcode!

Please Login to Remove!

Hello,

I have a bb pearl 8100, and until today it was fine with the keylock passcodes.

I had set a 6 digit passcode with max (1 hour, I think) timeout.

The phone started acting weird, and I decided to restart it.

As soon as it did, the passcode thing omes up, and every time I try to enter the password, it actually types two-or-three '*'s whenever I press a key!

I'm already out of 5 guesses out of 10, and the thing is I know my password, and still can't get it to input the 6 digit code into the handset!

It's only that I can't get it to write my number passcode into the handset.

Any ideas what I could do to let it accept numeric passcode or just reset the whole thing? (I don't mind losing text messages or doig a factory reset as long as it lets me into it again)

Thank you!

UPDATE:

I tried typing in the passcode while keeping the 'sym' key pressed and this message pops up:

Enter 'blackberry' to continue

Now, if I press the number 8, 'zc' gets written into the phone, both at the same time! instead of, say, BN

same with number 5, 'ad' gets written instead of GH

So I can't even type 'blackberry' into the screen.

No, it only wipes user data. The OS will remain.

To be honest... not sure if this is even going to help you.
I think your phone has water damage.

Woah. You couldn't be more accurate!

I just remembered, It was actually guilty of being exposed to a water droplet or two, today, and I tried to wipe it off from the top.

So, do you think the device is a definate fail, or any chance of revival?

edit:
I'm googling as we speak. Looks like I must give the hair dryer a try.

Remove the battery and the media card and put it somewhere warm and dry for a day or so (or in a bag of uncooked white rice to suck out the moisture).

If it was only a drop or two, I doubt it's water damage, but.....I have been wrong before.

Thanks, I definitely think it's water damage. I've never had an input problem before, and after the incident the keyboard has gone absolutely bonkers.

I could see water seep into the keyboard, and I tried to wipe it off. I can't believe I never actually remembered that until penguin3107 pointed it out.

It hasn't affected the battery or anywhere near the inside back of the phone, so that's good. I'm going to give the hair dryer a try and shove the whole thing into rice.
