If you are connected to WiFi, it will default to the WiFi connection.

you have to turn ON the wifi connection first and then click SETUP WIFI NETWORKS. it will scan for available wifi connection and then choose.

else, it will connect to your phone service provider internet connection

If you want it to connect automatically to wi-fi, then after you scan for your wireless network and save it, go to the manage connections, then scroll down to mobile network options and then set your connection preference to wi-fi preferred, that way when you get to a saved wi-fi location and you have the wi-fi enabled, it'll automatically connect to it....

Also there's one more thing you need to do... in manage connections, scroll down to wi-fi options and click, then scroll down to saved wi-fi profiles and highlight each profile that you have saved, then click the menu button and click on edit, then scroll down and make sure the option for allow inter-access point handover is checked, that way when you are on a call and your blackberry switches either from wi-fi to mobile network, or from mobile network to wi-fi, the call won't drop on you... Hope this helps you....

First of all thanks to all for ur valuable replies.

I did connect to wifi & able to browse thro it.

But when i browse using the browser(hotspot-browser) the connection is not stable. out of 5 mins, 3 mins i could able to connect and rest i get message as "The server is busy contact your service provider". Is it the problem wit the wi-fi network or the phone ?

Also, i probably hope the problem is without checking Allow inter-access point handover option in saved wi-fi network. Is it so ?

Please suggest !!

Try leaving your browser set to internet browser instead of hotspot browser when on wi-fi, I never change the browsers whenever I switch from mobile network to wi-fi, and visa versa and it works fine... as far as server busy goes that's a service provider problem and not a phone problem, call your service provider and see what they can do about it...

Can anyone help me. I bought a 8120 pearl a few days back and have spent hours trying to figure this out. The wi-fi connection allows me to browse the internet using the hotspot browser but the applications of gmail and facebook dont work. I am not on a data plan so dont have an internet connection from my network provider but wifi should allow me to use those applications right? I downloaded the applications using wi-fi on the phone and really really want them to work..... :(

NO, they will NOT work without a BLACKBERRY data plan.
I am amazed you got them to download in the first place.
