I'm totally new to this smartphone stuff so please have some patiente with me.

I've got a BB 8100 from my cousine from the US.
I live in Europe.

I'm wondering if I can install a new version of the OS on this model because it's from T-mobile.
I've read on another forum that I should download the latest version from the site of T-mobile but when I come there they ask me my T-mobile number, which I don't have of course. So I can't download their version.

so, can I install a new version from the BB site over this from T-Mobile?
what are the risks? are there any risks?

another question would be, will the annoying splash screen from T-Mobile dissapear when I install this new OS?
if not, is there any way to remove it?

You can install any version of the 8100 software onto your 8100.

Look at the top of the forum for a Sticky Thread with instructions.

Changing the software doesn't change the splash screen.

Some advice if I may. Before you try an OS upgrade, why not get to know the device first so you can really find out f you need an upgrade or not? You might be surprised to find that it works great as it is.

There is some risk, although not high, of something not working as you desire with the new OS or worst case, turning the device into a brick if you don't follow the directions and be patient.
