Default OS: 8100 4.5.0.294/4.5.0.174 (Multilanguage) - 10-11-2009, 03:11 PM

BlackBerry Handheld Software v4.5.0.294 (Multilanguage)

Package Version: 4.5.0.294
Consisting of:

* Applications: 4.5.0.174
* Software Platform: 2.7.0.105
* File name: 8100M_PBr4.5.0_rel294_PL2.7.0.105_A4.5.0.174_AVEA. exe
* File size: 93.58MB

Note: The Software Platform and Applications version numbers can be found under Options-About screen on the handheld.

* Download Software: https://www.blackberry.com/Downloads...F22A6C2A830A17

This download is from AVEA but will work on ANY carrier's 8100 model BB. (Not 8110, 8120 or 8130)

1. Download the above OS file to the PC then install it to the PC by running (double clicking) the file you downloaded. (Vista users be sure to right click on the .exe file and select "Run As Administrator.")
2. Go to c:\program files\common files\research in motion\apploader and delete the file named "vendor.xml."
3. Plug in BB and double click on "Loader.exe." It's located in the same place as the above vendor.xml file.

The process takes about 45 minutes to an hour depending on how much data you have to backup and restore during the process. Once it's done loading the new OS it will reboot (it may do this twice during the entire process.) You will see a white screen with an hourglass for up to 20 minutes at a time while the DM says "waiting for initialization."
If, for some reason, you end up with a white screen with small icons and the number 507, simply connect to the PC again and run Loader.exe again and it should load the OS to the device.

It won't let me install - It seems like a corruption file with the error message:
"Error reading setup initialization file"

--Phil

EDIT: It seems it was an issue with Google Chrome - Downloaded via Microsoft Internet Explorer and it worked.

Does this void your warranty if you download this from Blackberry but not from the phone company itself?

I thought i would share my experience for those who may be having trouble beyond the tutorial above.

Recently my pearl had been through many different fazes;

1. A completely white screen and just vibration
2. didnt turn on with flashing green light
3. Then a didnt turn on with a flashing red light

I then install an OS to my computer and it turned on with the 507 error. (i was just happy it turned on)

Now i could see the problem was no OS on the device.

I had so much trouble figuring out how to upload the OS to the phone. With different error messages:

1. not compatible with device
2. email application missing files
3. blackberry core software missing files

I was searching the whole web for an answer to these errors, i didnt find the one that work, let alone anyone with a solution.

BUT it really is as simple as this tutorial above, as the solution to the errors above was just downloading and install the CORRECT OS for your model of blackberry. (i may sound like an idiot but the sticker with the model number located underneath the battery had been taken off my phone)

I did install all types of pearls, and let my computer find the compatible one. loaded up Apploader.exe and delete vendor after each install, and apploader managed to find the correct software and there you go, it was uploading to the device.

Phone is working fine now, maybe a bit of trouble with the 'insert sim card' or 'sos' now and then, but probably to do with the phones age and me throughing it around too much.

but hope this could help anyone.

For the future, Options / About will tell you the model number. May have saved you a lot of trial and error.
