Default Trouble with application install

Please Login to Remove!

Hey all,

First, thanks for reading this post. I'm sure there have been a bunch of these already. I've read through the posts and have been trying to install an application for around 4-5 hours now.

I have an OTA program called Bing Bang BlackBerry OTA Downloader. I would like to put MobiPocket on my pearl (as a starter app to put on my BB).

I followed the directions to download the file. It came up with 6 .cod file from the .jad file. I tried to use the BB desktop manager to import the files to install and it will not accept .cod files in the application loader. From the directions that I have read from other posts using OTA, I need to direct the handheld browser to it. What does this mean? I do not have a data plan on my phone and it connected to my laptop only. Does this mean that I can only use the desktop manager? What is the handheld browser?

Thank you!

I don't know anything about the bing bang downloader, whatever, but I've used mobipocket mobile reader and there is an OTA download for it.

Maybe I'm missing something, but if there is an OTA download link, use it. I haven't used DM to install an aftermarket app since about 2005 or 6.

How do you use the OTA then? I thought there was a program to download the files first... Is OTA bluetooth or service from the wireless provider?

Wirelessly posted (Tmo's cheapest BB customer)

OP doesn't have a data plan so doing OTAs might not work. The only other option of using the BlackBerry browser is via wifi but I'm on wap so I can't see which pearl device he has.

OTA stands for "over the air" -- which is how most apps are installed onto BB devices. To do so, one simply goes to the specified site using the BlackBerry browser (the one that comes with the device as opposed to a 3rd part one) and usually the browser will detect that you want to install the app. Of course this would require you to have a data plan.

Jar/jad files usually indicate that the app is to be installed OTA. See if there is a desktop download version (alx format) of the file. That would let you use desktop manager to install the app to your device.

Just noticed OP is using 8100. So no wifi available. Looks like it's BIS or finding a downloadable exe file.
