Default Newbie with Pearl Qustions

Please Login to Remove!

Hello All,

I am fixing to get a new phone and have pretty much decided to go with a pearl. Just a few questions come to mind at this point.

What is the best phone 8100, 8110, 8120, 8230?

Will all of the above models work with ATT?

I will more than likely be purchasing the phone off eBay, not form ATT. (any problems with this)

I know very little about the pearl so any suggestions and advice is appreciated.

Thanks Again

Take a look at

Cross the CDMA models off your list.

I have no opinion on the remaining GSM models. Do a search and compare features. All will provide basic blackberry functionality. What are your must-have extras?

"Best" depends on you and only you. What would be great for me, most likely will not be for you.

My suggestion is do your homework. Go to the RIM site and compare the GSM models. Then go to your carrier's store and look at the various models available and see which you like.

Some people like SureType, others do not and refer QWERTY. Make sure you play with both before you buy.

Make sure you know the costs involved. You will need a bB data plan which ads about $30 a month to the voice package. You may also need a text messaging plan. So there are a lot of things to consider.

Those ending in "30" (i.e. 8130, 8230, etc.) are CDMA and will work only on Verizon and Sprint.

Read the FAQ article posted by aiharkness, above. Good info there on buying any used BB, on ebay or from other sources/friends. Also peruse the 8100 and 8200 sections here in the Forum.

And good luck!

Thanks. Very useful. Is there any benefits to purchasing the phone from att vs ebay?

Wirelessly posted (Tmo's cheapest BB customer)

Also piece of mind. Anything happens with the BB you buy from AT&T you can take it back. The same can't be said if you run into issues with an ebay seller.
