Anyone else experiencing freezes when the media card is even close to full?

The phone works fine if I remove the card, but as soon as it's inserted it freezes the phone.

I was using a 4gb card that had music/pictures/docs stored on it and it started happening, so I switched to a smaller card, (256mb) and put just a few items on that card. (About 27mb free) It's started again.

Yes, I'm fully upgraded on the os version.
No, I don't have a lot of applications installed.
Yes, I've tried other cards and they work fine until I put data on them.

This is my 3rd BBerry Pearl (The previous two bricked on me in the last year) and I'm convinced I should have gone with the G-1.

Ok.

Dumped everything off, deleted the .dat files and reloaded the stuff I want back on the media card.

Doesn't make me feel any better about the phone to know I might have to do that periodically, but...
