Default Blackberry Software Won't Recognize 8100

Please Login to Remove!

Hello, I just recently bought a Blackberry Pearl 8100 and I wanted to be able to connect it to my computer so I downloaded the newest software release of the desktop manager with media manager (though I think I didn't install it) and when I connect my blackberry, it says that it isn't connected.

Windows seems to have trouble recognizing it.

Any solutions would be great, thanks so much.

With the device on, pull the battery for about 30 seconds, reinsert and let it reboot. Try t connect again.

What OS is on your PC?

Are you connecting via HUB? BBs do not like HUBs so plug directly into a USB port on the PC.

Are you connected to a company BES? If so there could be an IT Policy affecting it.

Was the device bought new or used? Could be an IT Policy issue.

Try our SEARCH feature.

Wirelessly posted (The Dacia Sandero of data plan)

Also take a look at the connection settings under BB desktop manager, make sure its set to detect a usb connection.

Wirelessly posted

You should also check to make sure that the port on your BlackBerry is working. Check if you can charge the device.

Everything on the phone is working fine. Whenever I plug it into the back of my computer, windows pops up a message that the device has malfunctioned.

It also won't install the software I found from the box because I am apparently missing a file on my computer?

You need to install DM first for the drivers to load and for the device to be recognized. Perhaps you need to delete the version you have currently installed and download and install either ver 4.2 or 4.7, depending upon your PC's OS. Turn off your anti virus before you install.

Please answer the rest of my questions so we can better assist.

I'm running Windows XP SP3

I'm connecting it directly to my motherboard

I'm just at my personal computer, I bought the phone for personal use

I bought it supposedly new from eBay

Thanks so much for your help.

I downloaded the 4.7 software and my Blackberry magically worked!

Should I not update to 5.0?
