Default Problems with unlocked 8120

Please Login to Remove!

I bought a new unlocked blackberry pearl 8120 the other day. I put in my old AT&T sim card, and the phone can make and receive calls as well as send and receive texts, but it has a few problems...

The first problem is that any time I try calling a contact from my phonebook, my bb will add +53 in front of the number, and therefore not allow the call to go through. What I have to do instead is manually enter in a number each time I want to call it. Even when I try calling a number in my recent calls list, one that did not have +53 in front originally, it will add the +53. Any way to stop this from happening?

My other problem has to do with connecting to the data network. My phone can't seem to connect with it, even though I've called AT&T and had my data plan changed to a blackberry data plan. The upper right corner of the screen will only display 'edge' instead of 'EDGE'. I've tried going to the Host Routing Table and registering (multiple times), following up with hard resets, but nothing ever changes. As a result, email, BBM, and any apps that require a data connection will not work. I called AT&T and blackberry to see what they can do about it, and they eventually deduced that the homepage address for MediaNet needed to be 'device.home', while mine is just 'home'. Couldn't figure out how to change this though, and I ran out of time to explore it further with them. I'm not sure if this is the be all end all solution to this problem, but can anyone help me out?

1 - Change the Country Code to +1; look in Phone Dialer/Options/Smart Dialing

2 - if the BB still shows edge, then the account is not set up properly, regardless of what AT&T Customer Care may have told you. Media Net has nothing to do with a BlackBerry. Call them back tomorrow and get this sorted out.

With the device on, remove the battery for about 30 seconds, reinsert and let the BB reboot. Does that change "edge" to EDGE"?

If not. call ATT and have them check the plan, reactivate and resend the service books.
