A friend purchased four Blackberry 8110 overseas, and mine is the only one to have problems with the extra features of using email etc with the phone. I am located in Australia and I can use the Blackberry as a phone but not for email and internet browsing etc. Although when I try to call someone in my phonebook it places a 1 in front of the number and won't connect but when I manually type in the number I get a connection (1 is the international code for North America). I have been on the phone (for numerous hours) with my service provider (Telstra Australia) and BlackBerry Support here in Australia and they cannot help and are unsure why it won't work?? They have suggested that the extra features are still locked to AT&T as when the phone starts up it has the AT&T symbol. They said that the Pin Number and IMEI number were deactivated and they are unsure of how to get it to work seeings it has come from overseas. They suggested I contact RIM (but as a new user I am not sure of what this means and have read A LOT of posts and I'm still confused as to what a lot of the acronyms are). Can anyone suggest what to try next?

do you have a blackberry data plan?

for the phone dialling:
green call button
menu
options
smart dialling
enter your country code.

The data plan may not work, some carriers will only activate a data plan on their devices (esp CDMA carriers) as for the calling out problems, check your smart dialing settings and adjust them for Austrialia

fratss, the 8110 is a GSM device, so that's not the issue.

If the phone portion works with your SIM, and it is an ATT device, then it is unlocked.

If the PIN and IMEI are truly deactivated, then there is probaly some sort of problem with the device itself which makes data impossible - for example it was reported lost or stolen, the original owners account is in arrears, etc.

If however, the seller did not cancel their BIS account with their carrier, then the PIN and IMEI could also show up as deactivated. If that is the case, then you would need to contact the seller and have him/her contact their carrier to cancel the BIS account associated with that device.
