Default Problem syncing using Bluetooth

Please Login to Remove!

Hi all -

I have run into a frustrating problem trying to sync my Pearl 8120 (on AT&T) using Bluetooth, and I am hoping that some of the experts here might be able to help.

I am able to pair my Pearl with my computer (running XP) using the standard Bluetooth Devices menu in the Control Panel. However, if I run the Blackberry Device Manager, and choose to enable Bluetooth and Add A Device, it searches for a while and then tells says "Verify that the Bluetooth enabled device is configured for use with the Blackberry Desktop Software. For more information, contact your administrator".

I'm not sure what this means exactly, as it doesn't say that it can't find my device, but it says to make sure it is configured for use with BB Desktop. Any ideas?

Just to complicate matters - I had been running this Pearl to sync with an Enterprise Server. However, we shut down the server and it is no longer operational. Thus, I want to be able to use a Bluetooth Sync to download the contacts/calendar/notes to my computer. Unfortunately the USB port has died and I have been told that it is not repairable.

So I am in a bit of a jam here - any help is appreciated!

Thanks.

Early models, 8120 is one, were BT only for voice, not data. An OS upgrade to perhaps OS 4.2 or 4.5 should fix the problem, but you need the USB connection to connect to DM to do that.

And if the USB is dead, how do you charge the BB?

Thanks Dubdub -

I am pretty sure I have OS 4.5 (Options->About says Blackberry 8120 smartphone (EDGE,Wi-Fi) v.4.5.0.110 (Platform 2.7.0.90)). But maybe not?

In the Blutooth Devices Control Panel, when I select my 8120, I only see 1 service: Dial-up networking. Is that all I would need for sync?

For a while, even though the USB didn't work for syncing (I plug in the cable and the computer doesn't notice any new device), I could still charge it, though sometimes I'd have to unplug and replug several times. It finally degraded so that I couldn't even charge through the USB port, but fortunately you can use a cradle charger that only needs to connect to the two contact points on the back...

Wirelessly posted (The Dacia Sandero of data plan)

Unfortunately bluetooth synching has always been an issue with BlackBerries. Some get it to work, no problems; but most people have a hard time setting it up (myself included even after multiple attempts). There was a thread on the forum that detailed something about a BT driver that's found (or perhaps not found) on computers that was possibly causing problems. I'm on wap right now so I don't have the link handy. I'll try to do a search for it.
