Default do media cards increase RAM or just storage?

Just curious, this subject is kinda hard to search for. If you install a media card, is it like a RAM upgrade, or just storage upgrade?

I bought a 2GB media card for my 8100. After installing it, my total ram is still 64mb (alt+shift+h says "File Total: 63569920 Bytes").

Under Options > Media Card, it says "Total Space 1.8GB, Free Space 1.8GB".

Maybe I answered my own question, but can anybody else verify?

It just adds storage for media, but not for applications.
