| Please Login to Remove! Do you think they will ever make the cool BB's for CDMA (ie 81xx, 87xx)?
All we get at Bell, as far as Suretype goes, is the 7130e. I find it just a little to cumbersome. | | Offline

You take this thing that looks like a hockey puck and lay it on the dash and you get turn by turn directions.
Endgadget may have not seen the puck and so they couldnt quote on it. | | Offline

| WOW! Voice dialing over Bluetooth? For reals?
But seriously - any idea if it's speaker-independent type or you have to train it? I would love to switch back to BB for this but I don't want to lose any features.
I'm currently using a Cingular 8125 (WM5 device) and it's OK - still miss BB - but I can't live without MS Voice Command now. It's so much fun seeing how long you can go without having to touch your phone

| Blackberry Revolution So Blackberry already dominates the business consumer. This we know. The 8100 is squarely aimed at making progress with everyone else, aka the non -BES users. It does have some exciting cross over technology however, namely the 4.2 firmware, the joystick controller, and the micro SD slot. As a BES admin I know I am most definately concerned about the security implications of adding an SD reader to a Blackberry. Hopefully They will include ways to limit/disable the SD and camera features via the BES. I am curious to see how many of these changes carry over into the full qwerty devices, but regardless, I know I'll have users asking to get one of these puppies on our BES. After all, who doesn't want their company to buy them an MP3 and video player Blackberry. Although these features are fun for myself, I'm pretty sure they are going to add some real headaches to my job. | | Offline

| great news! Thank you everyone for the news.
The new device looks great, and it is nice to see RIM moving ahead in the consumer market.
I have heard of a similar device to this, but with a qwerty. (different forum)
Anyone know if that is true?
Thanks!

| This seems like a good enough thread to reply to (since they're all about the 8100 now a day).
Looking at the pix, it does look like I may have been wrong with my "RIM won't put out a camera in a BlackBerry" statement/arguments previously. I really didn't think they would.
Looking at the pix (and BG's avatar) I'm actually digging the shape of the keyboard on this model. I'm hoping the dip doesn't iterfere with the typing tho. But it does make for a more pleasing looking keyboard.

| The "dip" is quite similar to the 7100t. Not a problem. One handed keyboarding is great on one of the best features of my "ancient" 7100t.
I understand this device will have an upgraded version of Suretype. It should satisfy many (of course, not all). | | Offline

Speculation right now puts T-Mobile in September or October or November or December (although I've been told 'soon' so I'm leaning towards the first months in that range), with Cingular shooting for November (although they will have to abide by any exclusivity periods). T-Mobile likely has a 3-month exclusivity period. No prices have been set (by the carriers), but I'd speculate somewhere in the ballpark of $399-$499 with contract.

| They're going to want this for the Black Friday - Christmas Season timeframe.
And the importers/unlockers are going to be happier than me in the Skittles distribution factory in Massachussets.
Can you imagine what an unlocked BB8100, T-Mo branded, is going to fetch, say Mid-October? | | Offline

Thank you! |
Take a look at the side view photo with the mini USB plug on it, then compare it side by side with an actual blackberry. From the looks of it the 8100 is significantly thinner than the 7100t (my comparison phone). | | Offline

| I guess the idea of a blackberry with a camera just doesn't really do it for me. Even camera phones when they hit didn't excite me. It's just another piece of hardware in there, and I can't ever think of a time in my life when I needed a camera that bad that I needed to pull out a phone. Though I am sure this will be a hot seller, and I look forward to increased sales when it hit. This will give the treo's and the WM5 devices something to compete with though. | | Offline

| I think the stick or whatever it is in the middle is potentially superior to the trackwheel. If you type one handed on a suretype keyboard it keeps you from reaching up for the trackwheel. It can make typing a little bit quicker.
