Default Ringtones?? - 09-14-2006, 08:54 AM

Can small mp3 files be used as ringtones on the 8100? If so, how is it done?

Download 'em to your Blackberry and they should show up in Media. Roll the trackball over it to highlight, then hit the Menu key. One of the options should be "Use as telephone tune". Select that and you're golden.

Full mp3's can be used as ringtones on the 8100. save em in the Ringtones folder (either by browsing to it and saving it, or by using media manager).

When you mention about downloading them on the phone do you mean via emailing them to myself and dowloading from there. Or is there a way to download them using the desktop manager in any way? The website tunusin is very good, I'm stilling waiting, like alot of people, for my 8100. Its suppose to be here tuesday so I have a few days left. Thanks for all the help.

You can download ringtones directly to the phone via the web browser. You can load tunes to the phone via Desktop Manager through the Media Manager.

I heard from someone on the site that they can get only 10 sec of the song to play then it starts over. Anyone else have that problem?

Have you tried it yourself? I have a much longer ringtone on my 8100 and it works fine. It played for 25 seconds and then went to VoiceMail.

Try it yourself.

Went to tuneusin.com - there are lots of ringers to choose from, that's a great site. I'm too lazy to do my own rings at the moment, so that's a good place to go.

My wife just got the Pearl and I am a 8700C user. She downloaded some MP3's via TZones and the 1st one went to the ringtones folder and 3 others went to the music folder. She would like them all to be in the ringtone folder so she can personalize ringtones. Is it possible to move them from the Pearl or does she need to move them to the PC via Media Manager then Media Manager to the proper folder?

Unfortunately you can't just move them from one folder to another on the Blackberry. You need to use the Media Manager just like you said. I'm hoping a future firmware upgrade will make moving files on the 8100 possible.

I must be an idiot. I tried getting them from TZone, never came to the phone. Tmobile doesn't know why.

Tried to load an mp3 from my pc, it won't move to the media manager, says it exceeds memory.

Most of the ringtones at Tuneusin won't open for me.

BAH.

How large is the mp3 you are trying to move over? Ringtones directly to the BB are limited to 2.6mb.

With a microSD there is no size limit. I haven't tried anything larger than 7MB though.

But there is a limit if you do not have a microSD card.

You're right, I believe it was 2.86MB

Well, I downloaded audacity and cut some mp3's to 20 seconds and that worked. It didn't like the entire mp3 file.

I guess I need an sd card to be able to load music on it to listen to.

These new fangled things! *shakes fist at new toy*

I don't know if its something to do with the latest O2 release but you can move files to and fro device memory and the media card now.

In Media the menu button has a "Move" entry. This could be old news?

Yes. To the Media card. I believe the issue here is the 8100 does not have the additional microSD card...

Create your own ringtone from your own music instead of choosing from what they think is the best. You can shrink your files using an mp3 to ringtone software. Also, you can use dietmp3 to shrink a whole song to save space.
