For people have trouble getting mplayer to work heres a step by step:
http://www5.mplayerhq.hu/MPlayer/rel...32-1.0pre8.zip
Download mplayer from above and unzip it. Drag the unzipped folder into "Program Files" on your main drive. In that mplayer folder place the video file you want to encode and make sure the video file name is only one word. Now go to Start>Run and type cmd, hit enter. In the DOS prompt type "cd\" hit enter. Now type "cd\program files\mplayer".
^Everything above without "these"
Finally open up notepad and copy and paste:
mencoder -vf scale=240:180 <input file> -o temp.avi -of avi -ovc lavc -oac lavc -lavcopts vcodec=mpeg4:vbitrate=230:acodec=mp3:abitrate=64
Replace <input file> in the above string with the exact name of the video file being encoded. Hit enter one last time and the video will be encoded and renamed temp.avi - This file will apear in the mplayer folder that you originally put in "Program Files"
Hope that helps.....

I can't figure out all that DOS stuff -
10-06-2006, 06:38 PM
And yet I know DOS from the old days.
Until I can get better instructions, you may want to try Super C on the Sony 3GP setting. That worked for me in addition to the manual settings they explain in here. Here is the settings I used.
And here is an FLV video file I had converted! As a sample, it's not bad. At least I'm getting there in making things work.
Simply transfer it to your Pearl video folder. The video was choppy to begin with, it is not a problem with the conversion.

Has anyone been able to get a WMV to convert to a format that will work on the 8100? I haven't been successful.

Super?! -
10-07-2006, 11:29 AM
Yes, Super works great but what bites is you have to choose the VOB and drop it on the encoder...If you know anything about DVD video you should know there are serveral VOB files and most are .99 GB and this is about 1/2 hour of a video....If you have a "De-Macrovisioned" video you can use the Slysoft Mobile DVD converter and use the "VOB Passthru" option and this will make the movie one large VOB file (unchanged) and the drag that onto the Super program and Bada Bing..an entire movie at approx. 133 MB ( I got X-Men last stand and Lovin' it! )...One more thing....The settings advised are not best! Use AVI as the container...H.263 as the output..Use size 352X288 and 1:1 Video bit rate is: 23.95, at 352KBPS and Audio is 64 BPS at 22,000 sampling rate. The controls are a little slow but working nicely. Oh, The picture is Razor Sharp!!!!!!! BTW, Using the Passthru with Slysoft moble coverter takes approx. 20 Min and to convert to AVI via Super takes about 30 Min. It's worth it..Give it a try! The Slysoft program has to be bought but you can download the trial full working version, it will give you 21 days!... I'm not being rude but I used the demo the was made with simular settings and my BB crashed/I couldn't even stop the video and when the "reset" command appeard I clicked it and it reappeard..Try the settings I posted and I will try to upload video later today because I get crystal clear full screen video and controls work a few milliseconds after you try to stop or pause the video. I use the 352X288 and 23.85 1:1, audio at 64bits per second. This is the AVI container at H.263. BTW the H.263 is best and anyone into video conversion should know that.Anyway this is NOT a challenge, will someone try this and post their findings? And I used the 14.985 this looks spotty, I may be a perfectionist but my settings look like your watching TV on the BB

On mencoder, I can't get .avi files to convert successfully into ones that can play on the media player. I have on some, but the audio is either chopped up or it doesn't covert whatsoever, even after updating the binary codec packages. Can Super provide this to me? I have yet to try since I hear MPlayer provides better quality, but I'm down for sacrificing now for some videos I'd really want on my Pearl.

Mencoder - Dubbing In Other Languages -
10-11-2006, 11:47 AM
OK. I've encoded 20-odd movies from my own DVD collection so far. I didn't have the time to watch each one on the phone after I encoded it. I basically just encoded each movie, fired it up on the PC just long enough to make sure I had both sound and video, and went on to encoding the next.
I loaded one on my phone the other day, and the movie was dubbed in Spanish.
I have since checked all the movies I encoded so far. 3 turned up encoded dubbed in a language other than English. One in Spanish, two in French. I have no clue what made this happen.
However, after some digging, I found the switch to prevent it:
-alang en
This will force mencoder to use the English soundtrack when it encodes. I put it right before the input file path/name. I advise everyone who uses mencoder to go ahead and put this switch in the encoding string. It doesn't hurt anything, and it may save you hours of encoding time. And some frustration, of course.
FYI.

The low volume depends on what program you use to remove the copy protection. You must make sure you select English (if that is your language) two channel. If you select 5 or 6 channel the default output will be from the surround channels and I do not believe the blackberry pearl has a prologic amp built in it :>)

low volume -
10-12-2006, 01:55 PM
byeelec, thanks, i will try that. did not consider the surround sound issue. the last time i did it, i used super with your settings, then ran it thru mencoder again with the higher sound settings, and it worked perfectly, though i would of course like to avoid that step if possible.
i'm finding that the safest way to do this is to do each VOB file individually, the 8100 seems to like it better this way (especially with the control response time)

If that works for you then you should follow it. I use slysoft DVD to mobile and it makes one large vob file. I guess I'm greedy/ I like to watch the movie all the way thru but I noticed the stress it puts on the processor in my computer causing audio sync issues.only a few milliseconds however still noticeable.in addition to that single vob conversion allows time for modification of settings to make watching the movie perfect.
