kind of odd they'd change the model number without making some fairly noticeable cosmetic changes to the device (not just software). the rep say why the number change?

This was a rep at a store as well. Sounds like the typical miscommunication going on at Cingular

Well this is true, however the fact that the rep stated the exact number instead of just saying something like "oh we're getting the pearl..." makes me believe there is some truth to it.

almost a year later tho... 2 months later is pushing it. i'm not doubting what paul was told; just perhaps what information the rep actually knows... my rep told me the 8100 wasn't going to be called the Pearl, even after i gave him a link to the press release. hah.

If I recall they aren't doing the "c" and "t" thing anymore so they probably don't want to say the 8100 from cingular and the 8100 from tmobile as people would get confused. So they are just say 8100 and 8105 and that's that.

Wink

Rumour has it the at the Cingular Pearl will have PTT enabled ... perhaps that warrants the change from 8100 to 8105?

the problem is that some reps, even those at different companies hear something from a source and then consider that fact. It is nothing more than telephone. Those people want to be "in the know" before other people so are constantly digging for new info. whether right or not.

Well I wasn't pushing him for info at all actually. I just told him I got to play around with the 8100 and asked if he did. He said yes and he was really excited to get the 8105. I asked him when, he said November 14th (this is the 3rd cingular rep to state this). He said everything was the same as the 8100 but it looked different.

Interesting, as I said earlier, I'm sure there is quite the confusion within Cingular however I'm curious as to why I've heard the 14th from 3 different reps. I wonder if they're under the assumption that Tmo has a 60 day exclusive on it and they're just assuming they'll get it right after that.

My buddy was just in a meeting last week with the marketing director and he says the 8105 is still scheduled for Nov.
