Using a tip provided elsewhere here, I have my phone forwarded to a free number I get from freedigits.com. The voicemail attachments sent by that service are in mp3 format. Using standard gMail in my browser, I can "scan & download" the mp3 attachment, and the voicemessage starts playing in the media player. Works like a charm. Make sure that you don't use any wap or xhtml versions of gMail in your browser. Just use the standard html version of gMail.
If your wav file is formatted correctly, it should play from gMail. Just search here for the proper format. There are message in the 8700 forum which are applicable, as the processors on the devices are identical (or nearly so).
