As to your post of #18, I am not able to download the files you mentioned from the web pages provided after 'REMOVE' is removed. In fact I was getting message like "附件文件不存在或无法读入,请与管理员联系". Any suggestion?

Bo
If you mainly just need the Simplified Chinese, you need to download net_rim_font_chinese.alx and net_rim_font_chinese.cod. If you need to use Traditional Chinese, then you have to get all the 4 files. Hope it helps.

You can go to iceycake's site to download both simplified Chinese and traditional Chinese fonts. Thanks Iceycake for hosting the files.

I downloaded both files but only able to install one of them into my Pearl, when I choose the second file, it said no compatiable program found. It does reset itself but still not support chinese reading for E-mails? I use Rogers version Pearl with v4.2.0.51; will that be different than you guy's T-mobile Pearl? Any suggestion? Thanks.

Which file (.alx) you installed first? For me, I installed the non-hong kong version first and then the hong kong version next. I'm not sure if the newer version firmware (Rogers) will have any difference with the T-Mobile version. Anyone has the same problem?

I am using the Rogers firmware and I installed simplified version first and then the hong kong version. No issue encountered.

Hi, I got that solved now. Seems like what happened is the two long files (net_rim_font_chinese_hong_kong.cod & net_rim_font_chinese_hong_kong.alx) there names is too long which I need to retype the name again & it can be available to install by installer. Second thing is when I use shawmail to send chinese message, it turn into numbers because it does not support chinese characters (I think); but when I use Gmail to send chinese E-mail, my pearl can display in chinese characters.
Anyway, thanks for all your support. ;)

Default Chinese only works on the first page - 11-08-2006, 12:38 PM

Hi,

I've been using the Pearl for over a month now and with your help, I was able to read Chinese on it. However, it only works on all the first pages of my hotmail messages and not subsequent email pages. Also, it does not work on my text messages that comes into the sms folder. However, with IM, it seems to be fine. Any idea what's causing this? Thanks for any help.

It's very interesting. I have no problem of viewing Chinese with Internet browser. When receiving emails, I got only "????????". Then I realize the BES I'm on is OS3.6, does not support unicode. So I created a web client account, tried to send email to my bell.blackberry.net account, and I can read Chinese in my email now! amazing!

Ok, so I downloaded from icycake links.
I only see 2 files and tried to install with the desktop application loader.
When I try to add the .alx file,
it errors a message= 'no application were found for your system.'

I have a 8100 pearl, tmobile 4.2.0.64.
I have loaded other apps onto the pearl with desktop application and ota, so not a noob on installs.

Suggestions, Thanks.

Does anyone still have those 4 files that iceycake hosted before?
I goto the link but when I look for the files there is nothing there...
Does anything think they could host these files for me?
Thanks

The files should still be there.

Icey Cake's Fei Hua Blog: Viewing Chinese with T-Mobile's RIM BlackBerry 8100

Due to some problems with Apple's .Mac, it seems only Safari, the old version of Firefox (1.5) and all versions of IE works.

Let me know if you still have problem to get the files.

So is it true that a Pearl cannot input characters? If that is true, can the Curve input and read characters?

I'm trying to decide which phone to get, any help would be amazing,

thank you
