Does it cost extra when you use the BB messenger? Or is it like sending texts??

I thought PIN-to-PIN was free. I don't think it counts as a text message.

Blackberry messenger is text but it does not cost like Yahoo messenger or AOL...I am not sure if its a part of your data plan if you have unlimited data for example but I know it is free.

That's what I thought. I didn't think PIN-to-PIN cost anything other then the normal data plan.

Default BlackBerry Messenger

Yes, using the BlackBerry Messenger is free. However using the OZ IM client for AOL, ICQ, MSN and Yahoo is considered a text message. So you may be charged depending upon your Text Message plan.

However, if you download the Yahoo client for BlackBerry, those IMs are not considered Text Messsages and are free (on an Unlimited BB plan). The Google IM client for BB may work the same way.

Taken from Main Page - BlackBerryFAQ

Sending private emails only between BlackBerries. A BlackBerry PIN is a special address code similiar to a postal code or phone number, for sending emails only to other BlackBerries. This is not compatible with phone numbers or emails or SMS. It is an entirely different kind of an address. Not every BlackBerry user needs to use PIN Messaging, but this feature is there if you love it!

i was under the impression that OZ messenger was a data usage program. i'll test this theory later by checking my text messages, sending IM's, and checking again. but i thought the IM feature was to get away from having to have unlimited text.

Use the site JSanders listed unless you're using 4.2 OS then it is built into the 4.2 OS.
