Yes it works once I took the period off. Speakeasy speedtest: 133 kbps download 23 kbps upload. Very cool.

Was bored and said what the heck let me give it a shot!

Followed Instructions and in less than 10 minutes I was up and browsing thru my "Pearl" connected at 115.2kbs, not bad.

Default All working here

I had to remove the period off of the phone number as well, but once I did it connected immediately. Thanks for these crystal-clear directions, they encouraged me to spend the few minutes to get it working.

Now I have to figure out if I'll keep my Verizon MobileBroadband EVDO card. As long as EDGE is only 115Kb or so, I'll still need the EVDO for watching video (slingbox, primarily), but if TMO can get EDGE up to 250 Kbps or more, I may not need the extra card...

Curious - do people find the 115k useable. On Cingular, I find it is ok to grab an email ,but really to slow for serious web work. Thoughts?

I agree with the serious web work... just not good for that. It's not too bad when you have nothing else available, and as long as you're not trying to surf a graphics heavy website. Of course, downloading anykind of a large file isn't the best idea. But I have found it works great when I want to surf this forum from my laptop and there is no Wi-Fi around.

Got it to work but a couple of questions .... I just got this blackberry and I DO NOT have a data plan. I'm in Tornonto Canada (Rogers). This is not connecting to some "dial-up" service because I never had to input a phone number, so I assume its somehow connecting to the Rogers network (edge, GPRS ?). I did this on my previous Motorola V3i and I got a massive bill for data access after just surfing a couple of web pages on my laptop. Is the Balckberry setup any different? Please advise .... Thanks.

the only problem that i have with this is that its based on a microsoft's standard modem driver which i think is limited to max speed of 115kbps .. i always though EDGE can pull more than that so maybe there is better way to do this with a lot better speeds

Help Guys! This is absolutely frustrating. I following the instructions verbatim, everything is fine, it even says it connects. However whenever I try to open IE it seems like it's going to load, as in the little green bar starts moving, but then it just fails and I get no webpage. I tried this with several websites known to work like yahoo.com and google.com and can't get anything to load. Also, under the properties tab of the network connection, it says I am sending a receiving data supposedly. Any ideas?

It works. Again, do not put the period in the phone number and use the +cgdcont=1,"IP","wap.voicestream.com" connection string for T-Mobile

took me a while to getting around to this, thanks tho, really cool!
one note that I didn't see here, but was in one of the FAQs (I found by searching!): have to have DM running in the background. tried and tried without that and got the 692 error that basically says "hey, I have no idea what you want me to do!" found that tip and away we went.
thanks again, SF, good show!
