Hi,

My uncle gave me his slightly used 8100c (I currently have a 7290). Whenever I plug it into the charger, The red LED comes on for about 5 seconds and the screen goes black. If I power the unit on, it shows a battery with the diagonal line.

My uncle swears it worked for him last week...what could have happened? A new battery is not that much money, but I'm afraid maybe it is the unit and not the battery. There is no place close to me (Boston/Cambridge) to pick one up to try, either.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Are you trying to use a different battery on it? That's what the indicator seems to be saying.

When I tried to use a 7100t battery on my 8100, I got the same flashing battery with a slash through it. So it was telling me "wrong battery."

Go get a battery meant for the device, charge it and try it out. You may have to use mail order or see if a shop has one you can try out.

Sorry for the confusion, I am using the correct battery. It's the C2S model with the pad-lock symbol on it.

You should have a yellow C-M2 battery for the 8100
