Default 8100 Velcro Test: FAILED (cheap handsfree/incar cradle)

Please Login to Remove!

THe 8100's battery (memory, sim card) cover is not mechanically stable enough to support being Velcro'ed to the dash of your car.

Be warned: if you try, you will have endless frustration as the cover will simply 'come off' almost every time you grab the unit.

Unfortunately, this means one has to go back to the drawing board to make a home-made 'car mount' for the 8100. And no, i'm not considering buying one in this thread. =)

No need to create a cradle, the iPod cradle from Best Buy is adjustable in size and the midsize setting fits the phone nicely, holds it securely but not too tight to push the side convenience buttons. See link below. They also offer a version with a mounting kit if you don't want to put it on your vent.

And a resonable price.. impressive! I use velcro, and always have for my 957, 7280, and 7290.. i won't be keeping the 8100, i can't stand the keyboard, and need always on display.. but the 8800 will fit the bill just fine (i'll have to give up the always on screen)

I use one of those cheap rubber mats that the office supply stores sell to grip stuff on your dash.

I love the iPod holder idea! With my old Treo I used the ProClip mount and it was teriffic, but they don't make the mount for the Pearl yet. I was waiting and hoping it would be released, not thrilled about spending another $35 or $40, and looking for something better in the interim. Looks like I've found it!

With all the talk about the "flimsy" or weak battery cover and upon inspection myself, I determined that one cannot affix anything to the cover to function as a holder.
