Default The Pearl and Cingular? - 10-12-2006, 05:42 AM

When will Cingular be rolling out the Pearl? I hear early Nov to as late as first quarter 2007. Any firm dates?

What will be the differences between the T-Mobile and the Cingular model? I read somewhere that Cingular will have push to talk or something. What is that?

There are about a million threads on this. Try a search using Peal Cingular

I am not being rude but you will get a hundred opinions on when Pearl is coming to Cingular because no one knows.

And starting a new thread on one that has been started will most likely not get you anything....

Bad form.

It's considered bad manners by forum regulars to start new threads when existing topics already exist. Most of the new threads are started by new users too impatient to search the forum. Those new users also tend to register, ask their question(s) and leave forever.

Just chatted with an inside Cingular guy and he said Nov. 6th. I guess I can wait that long

I'll eat my hat if the Cingular handset gets released in November. I have not seen an 'exclusive' carrier contract that lasted less than 60 days. Most seem to be for 6 months or more... I think the January/February forecasts make more sense... IMHO, YMMV

Contrary to what most people think, my cingy source says T-Mobile doesn't have an exclusive on the Pearl. The delay for Cingy has been software testing and custom housing development.

Plus it does not have specific branding, i.e. 8700c, 7130c etc it is just the 8100 so I doubt that they have an exclusivity clause.

You may be right, but base on the ads I have seen by T-Mobile, they put "Exclusive form T-Mobile" An example is askmen.com, just go there to check out the Blackberry Pearl Ad, it seem to tell you T-Mobile have exclusive.

I was in the same boat. Either get another Cingular 8870, get a 7130 OR go to T-Mo and buy a 8100 at retail (without a contract) and get it unlocked. I went with the 8100 and am glad I went that route.

I was told Cingular would launch two PTT capable BlackBerry devices late November. I believe they would be the 8100 and the 8800. It's only speculation because the pricing chart has yet to be released by cingular to the reps, so we may be waiting until Jan or Feb to see this happen. I'd go to TMO if you really want one that bad.

Same guy tells me Nov 6th. He said that the Cingular warehouses are stocked with them, so hopefully sooner than later. I hear the 8800 launch is 1st or 2nd Q 2007.

Well, I for one am looking forward to the Cingular release. First off, it'll make me feel good because if Cingular did make any adjustments to the looks of the Pearl, it'll be for the worse (they always screw up good color schemes and designs - compare the cingular 7130 to the 7130s from other carriers) and it'll make me feel better that I bought from TMob and unlocked it. Secondly, conceivably they made no hardware changes to the 8100 - and have added PTT to the handset - and I can't wait for the software to be released so I can upgrade mine and try it out...

Peace,
Stac

There were some bugs with the TMO Pearl that I believe cingular worked out. Maybe just a few cosmetic changes from what I hear. Get that puppy out so I can buy it

That CNET article was also dated Sept 13th so who knows if that's still accurate or not. My optimistic/wishful thinking says Nov 06.
