Question LED flashing red after receiving a message

Please Login to Remove!

By default, after pearl receives an email/sms, the LED indicator flashes red repeatly. My question is how long the flashing lasts if you don't read the new messages. Sometimes when I pull the pearl out of my pocket, I don't see flashing LED indicator, yet when I check on pearl, there are unread messages.

Does anyone have the same problem or workaround for this? I did quite a bit research on the board but couldn't find any discussion on this.

Cheers.

I believe the time the LED flashes RED is about 3 minutes if im not mistaken. I have not timed it yet but that seems about right since I have watched it while sitting on my desk. The auto open feature for emails when pulled out of a holster is about 20 seconds. If you dont pull it out withen that time you have to open the email yourself which some people perfer..

Thanks. Too bad there isn't a setting to turn off the timer and make the LED flash red UNTIL I read the message... This may be a non-issue for blackberries before pearl since the screens are always on. With pearl you have to wake the screen up to see if you have new message, which is a bit annoying to me.

I have to disagree with you on this one. I've never had a BlackBerry where the screen was always on. It's a power saving issue.

I had a 7520 before and its screen only dims in power saving mode so I can still read the status. Does your screen turn off completely?

I was wondering the same thing. In my brief testing mine flashes for about 20-30 minutes maybe.

Is there a way to make the LED flash red continuously until the message is read?

You may want to try out PocketDay, which is a "desktop" for the Pearl [works with the 8100].

It has a feature that turns on the backlight and wakes up the Pearl home screen whenever an e-mail comes in. See link below:

Is there anyway to control the auto open feature. I've been trying to figure it out.

i believe it keeps blinking red until you either 1) open the new message or 2) go t the screen where the message is, IE inbox. So say you go to the inbox but dont open the message (you still see it on the screen w/ subject and who sent it), it wont blink red but your phone will still show the msg indicator. If the msg icon has the red asterisk, means you havnt look at the msg yet.

im pretty sure thats the deal w/ that. correct me if im wrong anyone :]

This is how mine works. I know my LED has blinked red for well over 30 minutes. I don't think it times out unless you do what Jdog posted above.

Default Keep it blinking?

So nobody knows how to keep the LED light blinking past the magical stopping time? As addicted as I am to the Pearl, at 6 AM I'm not too keen on digging around on my pearl to see if I have new messages. A quick check of the red led would let me shower and keep the peace just a bit longer...

Hmm. That is nice but it is $10... Not that its a lot of money, but I woulda thought that RIM could have added an option for blinking the light trivially.

Blackberry Alerts is more than just blinking LEDs. You can set different LED colors / sounds for different alerts, schedule when you want the alerts to occur, an alert log, and more. For $10, it's a steal.
