Question SureType off after you search for name in phonebook

Please Login to Remove!

When I want to send an SMS to someone, from the home screen, i start typing their name in. I then click MENU while on their name and pick SEND SMS.

However, it starts me out in multitap mode. I have to go into the menu and select ENABLE SURETYPE every time. Is there a way to have it stay in SureType mode??

Thanks!

There is an easier way to change back to SureType. Just hold down the * key until the ABC in the upper right corner goes away.

Well, here's the problem. After I pick "SMS Text Bob Jones", it takes me to the message composition screen. When I type, all I get his numbers. There is no ABC or NUM in the corner.

When I hold down *, it switches to letters but not SureType. It gives no indication of the switch either.

Try it...

From the main screen, type in the name of a contact.
Scroll to the name and push MENU
Pick SMS TEXT <name>
Then you will see what happens.

You have to go into MENU again and pick ENABLE SURETYPE.

I don't get it?

Thanks for the tip... I didn't even know you could get into the address book that way. Anyway, I'm on Rogers, and this bug seems to have been fixed. Doesn't happen to me. [Although there is some weird pixellation on the SMS text entry screen until you start typing.]

I got another problem - I did exactly as you said, and when I reached the SMS screen I kept * pressed. It started typing in predictive text. Now the problem is this - Suretype will not work on my Phone acreen any more. Before this I could type the name of a person in my address book and suretype would kick in and it would automatically scroll the address book to that name. Now that functionality is broken! Suretype does not work on the phone screen. For example, if a name starts with "Shin" and I type it normally, suretype would pick up the name from the address book. But now it just types "Agub" instead of "Shin" - Agub being the first letters on those keys!

Any ideas??

This person on another forum had the same problem, I can't post links yet:

Default suretype off

looking for a more permenant answer myself. however, I have been able to get it working again by removing the battery for 30 seconds or so, then putting it back in. Hardly ideal though because it always goes back at some point.

At least I think i know why now thouhg... probably when i go to put my phone in lock mode (also hold down *) but i'm in the address screen.
