Exclamation MiniSD is not MicroSD - and found a deal on microSD - 10-12-2006, 11:35 PM

A "mini" SD is not a "micro" SD.

I know everyone here talks about doing things with them but I don't think I read this basic point on any title. After three weeks of trying to get one cheap, I finally ordered one on Amazon. When I searched "microSD", I got a "miniSD" in the list. I figured they were the same because the listed dimensions were identical. WRONG!

So, for anyone unclear about the differences between all the different SD cards... You only want a microSD for the Pearl. If it says anything else, it's wrong.

Maybe this will save one person from the trauma...

micro
micro
micro

me feel stupid.

-------------------------------------

AND HERE'S A DEAL I FOUND THAT RUNS UNTIL 10/18:
NewEgg has a MicroSD card on sale for $34.99 then $10 rebate = $24.99

A-DATA 1GB MicroSD Flash Media Model MICROSD 1GB - Retail

Go to Newegg.com - Buy Computer Parts, Laptop Computers, Digital Cameras, and Electronics and searh "microsd". That's a link there in the previous sentence.

Truth be told, I am a computer nerd [according to my friends]. Two months ago when I heard the Pearl was going to have a MiniSD slot, I rushed out and bought two chips from Buy.com for $35 each. I was being quite the slick one, I thought.

When I got the Pearl I excitedly removed the battery so to insert my chip that I bought a few weeks earlier. What? It does not fit. WTF I said out loud.

So I logged on line to see what was up. Read the specs, help pages, still did not know what was going on. All of a sudden I saw the word "micro" somewhere. What? Hmmm.... let me go check my chip. Dang, it says "mini"

Long story kinda short, ordered two MicroSD chips and I have two extra MiniSD chips that I am using with my digital cameras.

Bottom line, don't feel bad.

Knows where the search button is, not really a button at all. It's a link, when clicked, a drop down appears then you type in what you are looking for

Thanks for posting this to remind people to use MicroSD and NOT MiniSD.

I almost got the MiniSD until I realized that it seems too big and than I found MircoSD near by on the rack.

So I realized that I should get the MicroSD and not MiniSD.

It's a good thing I didn't bother ordering it online.

Guys... you have relieved my suffering. Who knew this could be a support group for the linguistitechnically impaired. What a stupid system of naming memory cards.

I also got Amazon to eat their shipping costs by pointing out their errors in reporting the dimensions of the two types of cards, including stating that one weighed 2 pounds!

I just got my 2Gb miniSD card. I was terribly excited. My pearl is the ipod killer. 2GB of music, camera, telnet, SSH, VNC, corp and personal mail, web browing, IM.....

only to find that the TINY microSD card is too big. MICRO? and only 1 GB?!? Oh well, my wife gets the 2GB for her Q.

Worst part is, MicroSD is on national constraint. Nobody has 'em, everybody wants 'em....

I almost made that mistake. I ordered a miniSD, found out I needed a micro, cancelled that order and bought a microSD from newegg. I didn't see one for 2GB though. It wouldn't have been compatible because I haven't updated my OS yet.

Compact Flash? That is a big mistake to confuse CompactFlash with MicroSD chips.

I was at work ordering stuff when I should have been working I guess that will teach me.
I can almost swear I clicked on the Micro SD card.
Speaking of SD cards would any spend the extra bread on an ultra II card?
I still want a card.

I bought mine at good ol'e wal-mart. Amongst the piles of shopping carts, people, and pallets, I actually found them in the camera section... I think it was like $25-30

Heck, I did the same and ordered a minisd from tigerdirect. They said they'll take it back though but they didn't have the microsd, so I ordered that from newegg.
Guess I was just too anxious.
