To repair that would probably cost $50 or so with shipping. Looks like the display cover is a replaceable piece. Take a look at that thread where the 8100 was disassembled, that should tell you what comes apart. 8100 Disassembly - BlackBerryFAQ
Not that I am suggesting it, but I had a friend who had just bought a phone, damaged it, called T-Mo within the time that such was allowed to add insurance, and put insurance on the phone. Waited a few weeks, then made a claim.
But keep in mind that T-Mo insurance has a $100 deductible, I think.
But like I said, I am not suggesting you do that. Only recounting what I observed.
He does not have phone problems any longer as he is in state prison.
