yeah...pretty much! It'd be alot better if I could do it with like ALT +W or something.

There are no shortcuts to compose SMS (or compose anything else) on an 8100.

There probably is one out there that no one has figured out yet. It would be a little easier.

on the home screen type the first letter of the person you want to SMS then scroll to there name hit the menu button and click send SMS thats the fastest I can find with out a third party app...

There's a shortcut to compose a new email. Open the messages application and hit the "L" button. I don't think there is one for new SMS. It would be nice though.

quick compose in messages is "L" dunno bout SMS. I heard some themes give you an SMS only msg box. Maybe it'd work there.

But no shortcuts from the home screen.

while in the Mail folder(s), rather than pressing "L" simply press ENTER while a dateline is highlighted. this will open a new message, with the cursor ready at the To: field.

for the SMS/MMS folder, this action will move you to the Address Book for you to select the (first) recipient of your message.
