Default Emergency "Booty" Calls

Please Login to Remove!

Hi Folks,

twice today my T-Mobile 8100 made emergency calls to 911 while the phone was locked. Is there a way to disable the emergency call feature or make it harder to accidentally access? I carry my phone in my pocket and this is getting to be a problem.

Thanks.

That is weird! Have you tried a hard reset? I'm not sure if that helps.

I'm not sure what's strange about it. Making an emergency call from the locked phone requires three trackball clicks and a bit of rolling between two of them. Not that hard to do accidentally, but twice in one day seems excessive.

I'd really like to turn the feature off.

You can't. Against the law, apparently. You should probably lock the Pearl before putting it in your pocket.

with the latest software updates, putting the phone into standby will prevent the emergency calls from accidentally happening. with the standard tmobile software the darn phone would pop right out standby. the O2 upgrade has finally resolved all my issues with the pearl.

Sorry - missed that - it is there.

Wow. That is three presses on the trackwheel. Never heard that before.

This is happening with the phone still locked. If I do it on purpose, pushing the track ball brings up the locked menu. Rolling the ball to Emergency Call and pushing the ball again brings up the confirmation menu. Rolling up to Yes and pushing it again makes the emergency call. All of this while locked.

I assume the O2 update eliminated the option to unlock the phone using the trackball. When I go to the Unlock option and click it, the phone does not unlock. Is that what the O2 update fixed? If so, it does not fix my issue. If there's something more, hopefully it will resolve this for me. How do I tell if I already have it?

I also have the Seido jet black skin coming, which I hope will reduce accidental track ball pushes, but I'd rather fix the problem properly.

No - the unlocking works the same way. It is designed to allow you to make an emergency call when the phone is locked. I am running 4.2.0.62, and the Emergency Call option is still there.

If you press and hold the Mute button on the top of the 8100, the phone will go into Standby mode. In this mode it will still receive calls but pressing any other keys will not yield the option to make an emergency call (at least, not with 4.2.0.64).

That's excellent! Thank you pcm2! I'm running v4.2.0.42, so I'm guessing I need the O2 update.

BTW, I did search on this topic before posting.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry8700/4.1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 VendorID/102)

I have been experiencing the same issue.
Thanks for the tip.

If you prefer not to go into Standy Mode, one option would be to lock the keypad and then click Unlock. At that point you have to hit * and the green dial button in that order.

I think the chances of those two being hit in that order while the phone is in a pocket is probably fairly low.

Not sure if it will come out of the unlock screen after a while or not, so this may not help.

And to get it out of standby do you have to hit mute again?

Yeah....I was thinking there would be a shortcut to make emergency booty calls too. Just get a case so you won't hit the trackball so often.
