Default Question about using BB Pearl in Amsteram and Canada

Please Login to Remove!

Three questions:

1. Are their GSM ntworks in Canada and Amsterdam?

2. Do international prepaid sim cards work in the BB pearl?

3. Has anyone unlocked their pearl yet?

1. Yes
2. Yes, but you will not get your BB e-mail. Only voice and SMS texting.
3. Lots of people have. We've done a few at work.

For (2) if you are spending a significant amount of time outside the US, T-Mobile has a $19.95 add on for unlimited BB e-mail. Works great in Amsterdam and all over Europe.

Can you provide any more info on coverage in Amsterdam? I have users that frequently travel over there and tell me they can never get any signal. We are all using T-Mobile BB's on a BES with the International service. I know the map shows the entire country has good coverage, but it just never seems to work there.

cgprelude - I had an exec of my company thats located in Israel that wanted to use a Pearl. It is not available over there yet. I ordered a new one from T-Mobile. About a week later, I put in the unlock request. They had a 2 day turnaround time in getting me the code, and even provided instructions. Once they received it out is Israel office, they unlocked it and hooked it up to the Orange network and they tell me it works fabulously over there. Granted, we have several hundred T-Mobile BB's is use which I am sure helped my cause in getting a quick unlock, but they morale is they did unlock it and did not ask any questions about it.

Default Amsterdam

T-mobile Roaming plan works worldwide, any GSM network, they charge per Mb of usage.
I think it is about $9 per Mb. not really sure, you have to check on their website.
I always us my blackberry as a modem in France, tethering, because internet service is very expensive at the hotel, and it still works no problems
i have traveled to a lot of places with my blackberry and never had any problem with data roaming with T-mobile.

Be aware that your users still must have WorldClass provisioned on their account even if they are only using it for data.

Rogers and Fido in Canada are GSM - phone and data will roam no problem assuming T-Mobile has set you up to roam in other countries.

I also roamed in Amsterdam with no problems. Phone and data coverage all over the place.
