Default EDGE or edge??

Please Login to Remove!

Does anyone know what the difference between the two are? My Pearl seems to switch between both at different times.

Thanks

EDGE means you are in an are where EDGE is available and when e.g. browsing the internet it wil be done quicker than just with GPRS.

i think he means what its doing when it switched the 'EDGE' symbol to lower case.

the only times i see lower case EDGE is when it first connects, so maybe the lower case is just when its authenticating the network. just a guess though

it goes: EDGE > GPRS > edge > gprs > GSM > SOS

EDGE is the best, then GRPS, and so on.. lowercase letters mean you have no access to the blackberry data world only telephone.. upper case means you have access to data, GSM means texting only.. someone correct me if I am wrong, i am now on verizon..

Upper case EGDE and GPRS means you have a wireless data connection AND you are connected to the RIM servers (for email, web browsing, etc.).

Lower case EDGE and GPRS means that you have a wireless data connection, but for some reason cannot connect to RIM servers and so you will not receive email, etc.

I rarely see lower case (other briefly when than turning on my phone), but it happens sometimes.

Texas has it right. The Edge internet signal is provided by the service provider, it has nothing to do with Blackberry. When you have lowercase "edge", you will still have SMS, MMS (if available from provider), Phone, and Internet. The only things you won't get are polled or fowarded emails and PIN messages. Once you have capital "EDGE", all your Blackberry privelages are available again.
