Wink Just Got My Rubberized Case from Seidio

Please Login to Remove!

First off, I am kinda pissed, I ordered the case with seidio with fedex. It actually just came a day earlier than expected which is great... Except for the fact that it appears the fedex guy opened the box, left it in a puddle, and appeared it was completely destroyed. The retarded receptionist here at my office signed for the box, even though it was opened, appeared damaged.....

Seidio, actually packaged the case in about 2 inches of bubble wrap. Luckily i slide the box down and it fell right out into my hands. My reciept was alittle soggy, but intact.

Anyway------ My Review----

I bought this case strictly because of Phungy's reviews and to be honest i am 70-80% satisfied. The front and the back of the case look exactly like his pictures... The rubberized version is identical to an ibm stinkpad. It feels great to the touch, makes the 8100 look more badass and really makes me positive about the purchase....

However-----

We did not see any real pictures up close of the side of the case, which is two pieces. The bottom piece has lips on the top, bottom and sides.

The bottom piece fits in perfect like a glove... then you place the top piece over the 8100 and it snaps into place. I was able to very easily snap it into place, but it didn't appear that i had it properly seeded because it looked like there was a gap.... there wasn't, the top piece has a little edging on it that goes over the bottom piece... so it is not 100% flush. If you rub your finger from the front of the device on the side to the back... there is a large bump.

The case feels smooth all over except for this seam. The seam is the worst part of the case. it is very ugly and doesn't look like it was cut right. When i get home i will take pics of it with my digi.

The only other complaint i have is that i use the standby/mute button all the time to put the phone into standby without locking it. With this case, i find myself fighting the case to get to that button with my index finger....

if you are holding the 8100 with your left hand and try to hit the button on the top it is very hard. I think I will file it down so it is an easier groove to get to this button.

I just placed a phone call with the case and it is very comfortable with the hand any my ear... I believe i can hear and not shift my ear towards the speakerholes...

I give the case an 7.5 to 8 out of possible 10.

recap bad-
-seams look unprofessional
-buttons are accessible on top and side, but you have to get your finger in the case to get to the buttons.
- who knows how long the case will survive with these "lips" probably 50 times before they break, snap off or get bent.

Glad I got the bb oem skin for backups just in case....

dont be discourage by my review... i am very critical when it comes to this stuff.

If you baby the case, it should last awhile.

So you tried putting the case together starting with the bottom? That is what I did at first and the top would not close. Then I tried top first and it all snapped together really well. I gave a high rating because I don't use the mute button at all and it wasn't a problem for me. But I'm glad you like it.

I thought I had scratched the case but after rubbing my finger over it, the scratch disappeared. I'm still loving it.

I'm waiting for my rubberized case. I'll be happy to report back some additional thoughts on it once it comes in.

I had to snap from the top down, but there is a lot of tension on that top clip...maybe need to shave down the 2 top corners for a closer fit so the clip can be less stressed...I don't know.

Thumbs down Day 2!!!!

So i had the rubberized case on last night up until about an hour ago. I noticed a few things....

-When holding the case and typing the case would actually make a clipping noise and it was not 100% firm to the bb. Very annoying.

-The left side of the case (weaker side) - didn't really flush together right. The right side was flush and very tightly together, the left was not.

-The top corners of the case are by far the most protruding part of the case.

**************Borrowed a fine nail file from a pal at work***********

I took notes on where on the case it was just not snug and right. There were about 5 different places where the lips were either to big, or the top part was to long causing a crappy fit.

I began to file down the case in those areas, it took me about 30 to 40 min to file down and buff the spots... now the case makes no noise, it is as if it were just like the oem skin..... However, the case was still not flush when holding the bb in my hand and typing.

I noticed that it was the left side that had alittle extra room, so i took a post it note and cut it in half, i then wrote my info on it, and taped it to the inside of the case.

I snapped the case shut on my bb and it is a perfect fit. I also went around the whole seam of the case and filed it off.... now the seam is very smooth and there is no extra lippage digging into my hand.

imagine holding the blackberry in your hand with the case..... take your thumb and slightly press around the case, take notice to see if the case goes in or if it makes a clipping noise. if it does, you probaby need to modify like myself. Now i can press light or firm, the case doesn't move nor does it make any noise.

I also went ahead and filed around the mute button on top so i could get to the button without hurting my finger.... the best part to file this is actually the top part of the skin on the inside of the hole.... if you file inward on a slant from right to left, it makes a nice groove that your finger follows to the button.

With all that work being said and done, i am very pleased with "my" case. I am however not pleased with seidio! My case definitely was a rush job, either they have really crappy molds, or their manufacturing sucks... i shouldn't have to take 30 min to file down a case that should fit fairly easily.

What even pisses me off more is 2 points. First is the price! i paid 39 bucks for the case and shipping, and clearly this case shouldn't have been sold for over 19.99. I have honestly had better quality cases at a mall kiosk instead of seidio.... i could only guess the horrors of how the clear plasitic case fits on the bb as well.

My final pissed off point about this case is the fact that it appears that Seidio spent more time and precision on their damn logo on the back then on the actual case. It is not like it just has an indent popping out normal, no they had to make it all fancy with grooves inside the letters.

Honestly if i had to do it all over again, i would have just kept my blackberry oem skin, probably have bought a black one and put a piece of light cardboard on the back inside for protection.

I will keep posting in this thread if any new developments happen as they happen.

shot out to Tixxx!

Just got mine (ordered Fri.pm, mailed Mon.) It goes on just right, no seams or gaps. It's only "slightly" rubberized, won't attract pocket lint at all. It's the exact same material used in my Contour Case Showcase for my Ipod (which I like). I really like it.

It truly sounds like you received a bad or damaged case. If you would like to exchange it (which doesn't seem probable at this point), you can get a replacement for it by filing an RMA request online. Sorry to hear you had the problems you did, but most feedback has been favorable. Having said that, I will also tell you that I passed your comments on to our development team and president.

That's odd. I tried that and the case doesn't go in and no noise. Maybe...you got a defective one? I'm sure Seidio would do a return for you.
