Default Best Skins Ever have Dimples - 11-08-2006, 07:11 PM

Not that you can feel really, but still visible after three days. Is this normal? Kind of detracts from the beautiful glossy finish

That means you didn't install it properly.

Yes it's normal. Does it bother you that much? It's noticable in the light but that's if you're really anal..=X I rather have the skin then not though! =)

No that's not normal! I would guess you have tiny soap bubbles or air trapped under it. It should be nice, clean and spiffy looking

Did you follow the directions and use mild solution with water? I did and no bubbles have formed yet. Had it on for over two weeks now.

I agree I would rather have the skins than not, just wondered if the light dimpling was normal or not. Thanks very much or your answer! I feel better now.

There are no bubbles. Just a light texture (dimpling?). Also, not just the extra clear coat as I had hoped for. Quite noticable in the right light. Any rate, not enough to make me go unprotected, but not what I expected.

Fixed my post as well

He will never know

Still back to your problem, I think you have either soap or air because it is not normal for the skin to have dimples or anything other than a clear tight spiffy look

Rats! Too heavy on the soap? No air bubble as they would be very obvious - I've had them in other screen protectors. Only used a couple drops in 10 oz. or so of warm water as advised in the instructions. Maybe more time will heal it? You have a totally smooth finish?

Really appreciate others experiences.

Btw, when the backlight is on, there is no distortion on the screen.

Mine is crystal clear with no bubbles, dimples or anything else. I used baby shampoo for mine and a credit card. Plus I did it in a steam filled bathroom....

Trial and error.... You could always plop out another whopping six bucks and try again

Same process here except I used Dawn. I may try again after waiting a few more days to see if the dimples settle more.

Thanks for taking the time to respond.

There are very specific instructions on how to install the skins.

Biggest mistake is to not "squeegee" all the bubbles out and to not press firmly on the entire skin area to make sure that there are no air gaps. I use a credit card to lightly work out all the bubbles and gaps under the skin. I then use it to lightly scrape the skin surface to press the skin against the Pearl's surfaces.

I have had by Best Skins Ever on for three weeks and mine is perfect [see pics below].

Did you print the online instructions and follow the directions to the letter?

While the process is not technical, it is easy to goof up on any one of the step and to end up with a bad result.

Of course, this assumes that what you are NOT talking about is the slightly wavy surface that is inherent on the skin surface. When looking at the skin from an angle, you can tell it's there. See pics.

I think that's the word, "texturing," meaning you can see the skin texture if one holds the Pearl sideways.

Maybe a "light ripple effect" is another way to say it.

If his looks like the moon, so to speak, then he did not do the install correctly.

I LOVE the BSE full body skin. Only if it protected the sides too...

I ordered their $26 skin for the Apple notebook computer with the intent to cut it up in sizes for whatever I need.

When I got it, I used the sheet meant for the top cover of the notebook, cut it to size and put it on my ThinkPad. [Was not my original plan, but I hate ThinkPad's rubber casings].

I still have lots of material though. I plan to cut some strips and put it on the sides of the Pearl.

If you want to PM me your address, I will mail you some small strips for yours, if you want.

My five minute "hack job" on the sides.

BSE costs $6 as compared to $25 for ShieldZone. They are both the same product. So you can decide if you want to pay $18 more for fitted side skins [BSE does NOT have skin for the sides, ShieldZone does].

Bonus Tip: No one is going to notice my sloppy work, so for me paying $18 for a couple of strips to go on the side does not matter.
