hey i have been looking for help with my sd card. i read the threads and the settings on my phone are correct, but when i transfer a song to my card, i am not able to access it on my media player. i dont have a folder on my sd card do i need to format it with the phone or make a folder on it or what. im confused lol

yes, you need the correct directories or folders so the phone can find the files.

you need these directories on your memory card:

Music
Video
Ringtones
Pictures

is that something that i can just manually add to my card from my pc? like if i click my computer and removeable device and add new folders , that should do it?

yes. if you can see your card on your computer you can add those directories I listed and then put the appropriate files in each dir.

I have done that and my phones reads the files no sweat

where in media manager would i see the sd card folders or is that the wrong place to look for them

You sure you have the settings correct on the Pearl?

Sometimes people forget to save the settings. If the folders are not automatically inserted on to the chip, something is wrong.

Check the settings with the below, start over, then do a battery reset.

The folders should then be automatically set up.

Turn <Media Card Support> to 'on'

Turn <Mass Storage Mode Support> to 'on'

Set <Auto Enable Mass Storage...> to 'yes'

click <escape> key [key to right of trackball] to get to <save> option

Scroll to 'yes' and click trackball to save the settings.

Do you mean in DeskTop Manager?

In my DM, once I set up the MicroSD card to "media mass storage when connected" my MicroSD care does NOT show up on Desktop Manager, only the device memory shows up, which is about 19MB.

I installed a new card in my Pearl on Friday and I followed all of San Francisco's instructions from his kindly post in another thread. Set all the mass storage stuff like he said above. It didn't work. In Windows there was no Blackberry in the file reader, just a blank page. The pearl said "card not formatted" when I put it in, so I hit the Pearl menu and chose the Format Media Card option and that did it, all 4 folders appeared and I was good to go. Then I copied my ringtones to it and they work just fine.

I wonder if there is something about the brand of card that makes a difference or if there is data on the chip. I have installed four chips, one SanDisk and three Kingston and none of them need to be formatted.

When I started up the Pearl, the folders appeared on the chip.

But looks like the format the card [while the chip is on the Pearl] is a step some people may need to take.

we have success!!!!! yes sorry guys usually i am more tech savy than this, but i just got the 8100 and keep forgetting that menu key will bring up different options in the phone. i hit menu while in the settings and media card area where i put in all those settings and lo and behold there was format card. that is the step i wasnt doing. thanks for the help!!! i havent checked it yet, but im positive that was what i was not doing.
