Default browser problems

Please Login to Remove!

Got my pearl about a week ago, put opera on it as alot of people said they prefered it to the default browser.
But if i do try to use my default browser it says theres no internet connection possible, but opera is fine ?
Also, before i signed up to tmobile i did the check thing to see if i could get full 3G speed in my area, it said i could but only get GPRS not EDGE on my screen, do i have to enable it or something?

First GPRS, EDGE and 3G are three different things - increasing in speed in that order. (Although EDGE and GPRS are closely related, you're device needs to support EDGE to be able to use it).

Secondly, The Pearl is not a 3G phone, and only handles GPRS or EDGE.

Third, T-mobile in the UK only have GPRS and 3G. They have been trialing EDGE in a small area in the west if i remember corectly, but its never been launched across the full network.

So the 3G check you did doesn't really apply to your handset on T-Mobile UK.

Bottom line.. You will only get GPRS on T-Mobile in the UK

---

I *think* for the MMS thing you need to login to t-mobile online and set your phone type. They then know your device is capable of handling MMS media.

GSM and Data calls are called 2G
GPRS is called 2.5G
EDGE is a faster version of GPRS so is also called 2.5G
UMTS (or WCDMA depending on where you live) is called 3G

Oh and for the MMS thing i meant the T-Mobile online account where you manage your bills etc. The Instant-email account doesn't configure anuthing except your email - and resend service books.

yeah thats the one im waiting for, already got my service books, got them via the browser on the pearl, which doesnt work now =[
The site said they have to send a pincode to my house to verify where i live before i can view bills etc, strange!

Any idea about why the t mobile browser doesnt work but opera does?

Hmm odd.. As far as i can remember T-Mobile have 2 APN's (think of them like routers to various networks).

Blackberry used Blackberry.net - routed through the blackberry Server. This will be handled by the HRT.
All other phones use general.t-mobile.co.uk which is just a GGSN endpoint.
Both route out to the internet. I assume to get opera to work you put an APN in 'advanced settings -> TCP' ? Which one did you use?

Hmm ok.. it shoul have username 'user' and password 'wap' but i don't think they bother checking that anyway.

try requesting the HRT again, and pushing the service books back.. I lost my WnW a few times already. Failing that you might have to call them up.

I noticed my browser hasn't been working the past few days late at night. Maintenance maybe?

From the Opera website for anyone with Tmobile. This fixef my Opera 3 problems.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

I can't connect with my Blackberry device on T-Mobile USA

There is a specific setting required to enable an Intenet application on a T-Mobile BlackBerry to go out to the Web and not get routed into the BlackBerry network.

Go to "Options", then "Advanced Options", then "TCP".
Under APN, enter "wap.voicestream.com".
Leave "Username" and "Password" blank.
