The default blackberry setup is to use 't-zones' as the browser. This is the T-mobile customised browser which doesn't react well to pages that try to detect you're device type.
For example when you try to download the free themes (from options -> themes -> download themes) it'll tell you you don't have a compatible device. Or when you try to upload scroes from games it'll tell you the same.

A more serious problem is that if a BB conection is open (blackberry.net) for you're mail etc, and you then open a connection to the general.t-mobile.uk APN (say using verichat) the browser will no longer be able to connect to any web pages.

To fix this if you open you're browser and go to options, you should be able to change the browser type from t-zones to web n' walk. The web n' walk browser seems to be the uncustomised original BB browser.

Its a little odd that before i went to .67 only t-zones was listed there. But i can't be sure it was the upgrade that did it. It may well be that Tmo pushed the wb n walk browser to my phone when i last complained.

I have the same problem, but can't figure out how to fix it. I tried T-Mobile CS but they didn't seem to know (anything!). Does anyone know if I need a Walk n Talk service book pushed to my phone; or to upgrade to .67. If it's the latter, where can you download the UK T-Mobile version or doesn't it matter? Thanks

In your current browser settings do you only see t-zones?

If so, maybe call 150 (go to tech support, problems with data/GPRS) and tell them it used to work when u had the web n walk browser, but now it dissapeared.

This is a FAQ. The T-Zones broswer instance is designed to run through T-Mobile's WAP gateway as I recall, so what doesn't go through that gateway, doesn't wind up on your BB.

The Web'n'Walk service delivers the Blackberry Internet browser service book, and then it should all work as you want. Also means the use of GPRS is for all intents and purposes unlimited on your BB when you're in the UK. It's what I have, and I think it works well. But to get the Web'n'Walk service you have to subscribe to it as an option on your plan.

Re 150 and CS, you need to persuade the CSA that your query needs escallating. The BB specialists are quite good in my opinion. Best way I've found to do this is to baffle the front line staff. These staff are good at dealing with basic questions acroos ALL services. The speacialists are, well, specialists! But be warned, if they figure you're using a firmware version unsupported by T-Mobile in the UK they won't help. T-Mobile in Europe *do* test OS versions and reject them when they have problems on T-Mobile's network with T-Mobile features and options.

Actually....

- T-mobile UK only use 1 APN for general internet access (general.t-mobile.uk). [The blackberry APN is on a slightly different segment and allows cross talk to the blackberry server.]

- T-Zones is T-mobile's generic name for web access using your mobile

- Web n Walk is the name of a particular addon that allows unlimited web browsing from your phone

- WAP is a protocol for displaying information NOT a data transmission protocol.

- HTML is another protocol for displaying information

- You can browse the internet on your phone using T-mobile and a WAP browser or a HTML browser.

- The t-zones browser is simply a customised version of the blackberry browser.

The actual distinction between what is part of your BB data usage or not is actually done by checking the detination of your data connection - this is logged and billed on the billing server. It has nothing at all to do with the browser.
Since you could be using your 50mb to connect to a BB server out on the net they count connections on the net in this allowance. If people really abused it they could restrict the ports that you're allowed to connect to, or simply charge you for connections to port 80. Remember the 50mb alowance is for EMAIL and not for general web browsing. (last i checked anyway).

The T-zones browser is simply pointed at t-mobiles mobile pages on startup, but allows you to browse to any internet site you like. In any case both browsers are fully html (and WAP?) compatible so there are no WAP gateways involved here. WAP gateways are either for very old phones which don't have real browsers in them and only understand pushed text or for phones which only have WAP browsers but want to attempt to view non WAP pages. I'm sure these days T-Mobile's WAP gateways are colecting dust in some corner.

I agree the Web n Walk servicebook is only pushed out to people with web n walk activated, but the whole idea is to convince (trick :d) them into pushing it to you. Since the t-zones browser doesn't work properly its a nice simple solution for the CS person!

I too am having problems with the browser,
I'm on T-mobile UK (Relax 30 + instant email), running software version 4.2 with APN set to general.t-mobile.uk.

I see the 'world' icon for the browser when in a BB theme, and W'n'W icon when in the Tmobile Zen theme, and either way when trying to download extra themes on the Blackberry help page, it tells me either The Blackberry help page is designed for use with the blackberry browser, or when trying options>themes>download themes it tells me

Sorry, themes are currently not available for my blackberry device. Theme downloads require color Blackberry device running software version 4.1 or higher

I'm unable to change the browser config, its fixed to t-zones
