(Cingular) $29.99 BB Data Plan-Please help! -
12-04-2006, 01:28 PM
Hello,
When I bought my Pearl on Friday, in order to get the full upgrade discount I had to get a data plan too. I told him to give me the cheapest one, and he said that was the Blackberry $29.99 one. I was so excited about the phone that I didn't even ask what was included in that (I know, stupid). So I called the 800 # today and they lady told me it's unlimited email, internet use, texting etc. I said that can't be, the unlimited one is like $70! She said, well that is what it says right here. So I called the actual store I bought it from and asked what was included in the plan and they said it includes 10MB of data usage. When I look online at my account it says:
Added Features:
BBRYBISUNL $29.99
So what do I really have? It can't be unlimited for that cheap. The understanding I got from the website is that it looks like that only covers unlimited email. I AM SO CONFUSED!!! I am being told 3 different things (not that I am shocked). Anyone here know what I have??

That has to be correct. There's no way Cingular would be able to survive against T-Mo if their Unlimited Data Plan is $70 and T-mo's is $29.99.

Oh yeah that makes sense. Then I must just be understanding these plans wrong. So for my plan I get unlimited email and unlimited internet use?? I wonder why the 800# said unlimited and the store said 10MB of data? Ugh! I just don't want to screw around and end up with a huge bill!

I don't even see the $29.99 BB plan as an option on the website! The only one that is $29.99 is a regular data plan, and that is 10MB which explains what the lady in the store thought. She didn't understand that I was talking about the BB plans.

You will get unlimited data, email, internet, if you have the Unlimited Plan.
text is not included. Follow the above and you should not have a big bill.
Just confirm with carrier that you do have the unlimited plan

On Cingular's web site they show 2 plans for the regular user (not Corporate). They have 'BlackBerry Personal' which says to be $34.99 with unlimited data. Then they have 'BlackBerry Tethered' which is $79.99 with unlimtied data. It doesn't say exactly what type of data you get (sms, mms, email, internet, etc..). Also, if the tethered plan is for accessiing the internet from your laptop with the BB tethered, then they are stupid because T-Mo lets you do that for no additional charge.

OK so basically...still don't have an answer LOL!!! This is too funny. So supposedly the plan I have isn't even an option on the website, but when I view my plan online it says (Added Features: BBRYBISUNL $29.99). The 800# did say it was unlimited.....I just find it odd that I can't find that option on the website. Kinda scary.

The plan you have is BlackBerry Personal. It's $34.99 without a voice plan and $29.99 with.

The store was probably talking about the $29.99 Data Connect plan. That is limited to 10MB. The plan you have is the $34.99 BlackBerry Personal Plan which is unlimited. The plan is discounted $5/month with qualifying voice plans.

when I first went with Cingular, several months ago, they automatically put the more expensive BB plan on my 8700c. I called and told them it should be the $29 BIS unlimited and they told me there was NO SUCH PLAN!
I have to find this plan and the code BBRYBISUNL to give to them before they found it and put it on my account. It was crazy but the difference was $49 or $29 I think and the $29 plan is all I will ever need.

Right. You can get BlackBerry Max for $39.99, which is the same as your plan, but includes 1000 messages (SMS or MMS). Your other choice is to keep the BlackBerry Personal plan and add Text Messaging Starter, which includes 200 messages (SMS or MMS) for $4.99.

Yes, text messages are separate. You either need a messaging or a MediaNet plan to cover those.

Megkins,
Just to cover your own a$$, i would print out what you see on your OLAM and keep it for your record... just in case.
I currently use Blackberry Unlimited ($49.95 - $5.00 - $50%) + 200 txt message for my BB.
You have a blackberry personal unlimited so you should be okay.

T-mobile is not 29.99 it 19.99 for unlimited blackberry use. Cingular is 49.99. That's why I went with t-mobile. Unless cingular just changed in the last two months. I don't understand how cingular keeps any blackberry users at that price. Not when you can get the same thing for 30.00 cheaper a month.

I'm now confused. I have the BB Unlimited for $49.99 (less $5). How is it that they have the BB Unlimited for $34.99 (less $)?
duh - figured it is b/c I'm on a BES. But this makes no sense. Why would our corporate pay for the BES and support it and then I am charged an additional $15? Pls don't give me the Sprint or TMob flames about how much cheaper they are, as I have to use Cingular (both coverage and coporate). I just want to know what is going on "under the covers" that would cost more and how would they know if you are using a BES or not?

I'm in love. LOL I have never enjoyed a phone this much. I love everything about it. Love all the features...I love the voice dialing (my last phone could only hold like 10 voice contacts...this phone recognizes WHATEVER you say for your whole address book-WOW!), I love that I can make my own ringtones and put them on the phone, I love that I can transfer pictures and music etc. I love the SureType...EVERYTHING! It's so light, and pretty. I am a happy camper!

What they meant was you could have the unlimited data plan at $29.99 IF you upgrade your voice plan to a plan that costs $34.99 or more. So you would have a voice plan then.

The $29.99 is the unlimited Internet with e-mail without the option of tethering (using your Blackberry as a modem for your laptop)
The $74.99 (when you sign up for a new contract) includes everything above including tethering.

The $34.99 plan and the $79.99 plan is if you are changing plans but if you sign up with a new contract than it's cheaper at $29.99 plan and $74.99 plan.

It's because you said that data plan is $29.99.
It's $29.99 without a voice plan but it's $19.99 with a voice plan.
I just want to clarify that.

The Cingular 34.99 (29.99 w/voice)BB unlimited plan is only available on the business side. If your getting it on your own, you have to get the 49.99(44.99w/voice) if you want unlimited BB. The 34.99 personal plan that is on the website is a typo, you can see the same plan on the business side. I just got finished arguing with CS about this.

Sorry, but the rep is incorrect. The $29.99 personal plan (w/ voice) BB unlimited is available to everyone. When it came out, I switched to it from the the $44.99 plan as I don't use a BES. When I switched it took the rep forever to find it, but it helps if you tell them the plan code. It is "BBRYBISUNL". Hope this helps.
