Ok, so say I'm in opera on myspace for example, a friend of mine writes me a phone number, so I scroll down to it select call number and I call it, then I immediatly hang up so its in my log and I can save it to my address book. My problem is that 99% of the time they are mobile numbers and when you add a number to the pearl, it automatically uses "work" as the default field assuming its a work number, so then I have to manually put it in as a mobile number, erase it as a work number and then save.

My question is, does anyone know how to make the default field the mobile number when having the pearl automatically save a number. I like being able to type the number on my screen and then through the options add to address book.

There's no option for that anywhere in the software. Another thing that irks me, is there's no option to add a number that you type, to an existing contact!!

Cut the number from the work field, and then paste it into the mobile.

One tip you might want to consider:

What I do is have multiple contact entries for the same person, each with a different number [work, mobile].

The reason I do this is because I use my call log a lot when calling the same people frequently. By having the person listed under separate contacts with type of number designated, I can simply scroll to that number and dial instead of looking up the contact and selecting the number.

This saves a little time when dialing people back [especially when running out of speed dial numbers].

For example of how I enter this in contacts:

"Kristenwork" [note that this is exactly how I list the person's name in the contacts list, no quotes of course].

When the calls come in, I know right off the phone the person is calling from.

Second, when I want to call from the call log [which I do a lot], I can select which number I want to call by simply highlighting it and pressing the call key [green phone].

Just make sure you change the option to allow duplicate entries

This is also true with my old Motorola E815/V710 I had. I just gave up trying to remember to change the number type, so all of my contacts in my Pearl are mostly "Work" numbers. I don't even look at the types anyway.

I find that this solution would create way too many unnecessary entries in the address book.

Do you realize that you can access the call log by pressing the green send button and then scrolling to the person you want to call, click the trackwheel and choose whether you want to call/email/MMS them? You can easily pick which number you want to call if you have multiple numbers stored for them i.e. work, home, mobile, etc. since the options all pop up when you click the trackwheel. This helps keep your address book much cleaner. To each their own though.

The phone number and the caller both show up on the screen when they are calling anyway so its fairly easy to determine if they are calling from their mobile or home. If you can't figure it out though, the phone log will tell you whether it was a mobile (M), work (W), home (H), etc next to the phone number.

thats what i have been doing, but thats what im trying to get around.

I brought 150 contacts to the Pearl via SIM and they all defaulted to "work" even though most were "mobile." It took me about 45 minutes to cut and paste each one (I'm OCD).
