Default Nicknames in Pearl Contacts - HOW TO LOCATE

Please Login to Remove!

Two things you should know before I explain my question: 1) I work in entertainment where a lot of my contacts go by nicknames, and 2) I'm extremely anal and I prefer to program everyone by their "real" names.

So, that said, here's what's up: I'm trying to find a way to program a user's real name into my phone under the FIRST/LAST NAME entry, but I still want to be able to find them quickly even if I search for their nickname. Here's what I mean... On my previous phone (Sidekick), I could have a contact who's name was Calvin Broadus. If I wanted to quickly locate that contact or shoot off a quick text message, I could type CAL or BRO, and the address book would narrow down the names to include Calivn Broadus (as it does on the Pearl). But within that contact's info there was also an entry for the NICKNAME (in this case, "Snoop Dogg"). So, if I typed SN, the address book would still bring up the same contact even though "Snoop Dogg" isn't listed in the FIRST/LAST NAME field. So, anyone know if this can be accomplished without changing the way the names appear in the address book (ie: is there a way to search for info that's located in other fields)? Hope this makes sense... thanks.

I know its not the fix you want but you can put the nickname in the company field.

The search functions looks at company names too as a source for look up.

In Outlook enter the real name, and just below where it says "file as" enter the nickname. Synch to the Pearl. That way it has both ways to search.

Hmm... this sounds interesting, but I don't use Outlook. I'm on a Mac and don't use many Microsoft products. No way to do this with Address Book, is there?

Dunno, I use Outlook, but check your contacts program carefully. If Outlook has it your probably has a similar feature, because a lot of people want to do this.

I have all my friends nicknames saved in contacts also along with usually just first name and last initial. I was sticking the nickname in the Title field. When searching the pearl checks title along with name(1st n last).

I didn't like how it would show up in list view though, kinda anal myself, as "NICKNAME FIRST LAST." So I change and now include nicknames in the firstname field in quotes, ex FIRST "NICKNAME". Now in list view things appear how I like em, FIRST "NICKNAME" LAST. And the pearl is smart enough to match to individial words in the name, so if I type, FIR or NIC, either way I get that contact.

The quotes are optional but the anal me likes em.

I'm exactly the same way. This might have to work, seems like the best option so far. Thanks!

If you don't mind using the Search screen instead of the Address Book application, you could.....

rename one of the User-Defined fields "Nickname". From the search screen, search for "text".

Not the best, but, it is an alternative.
