I was about to bite the bullet and just buy Outlook, but searching in the forums I ran across
CompanionLink, which allows you to sync anything with pretty much anything. I got the trial version, and it works pretty much as advertised. I can keep using Palm Desktop, which I happened to like very much.
The one downside is that Companion Link, the Express edition, is like 50 bucks. It's still better than having to spend 100 bucks on Outlook. I'm finding out that getting software for the Blackberry starts adding up, as opposed to the great variety of open source and freeware software you find for the Palm. However, not having the phone crash every day and having mobile email that actually works is priceless by itself. And it'll get better if RIM keeps putting out consumer/prosumer devices like the Pearl.
