Default Couple of Q's, Searched..

And yes I did search.

I just got my 8100 from ups yesterday and this is my first blackberry. I am with the 1000 Minutes, Unlimited Txt + Data plan for 59.99$ a month.

I just have some small questions regarding what I have found searching.

First, how long does it generally take to get your plan switched over to the blackberry internet plan from a original 600 minute plan-I'd hate to get charged for a biscuit load of internet usage? Also, why are people asking for different MSN/AIM messenger applications when the black berry includes one, even if I have unlimited data + txt it wouldn't matter if the application used either?

And whats with people setting the wap.voicestream on certain applications to be able to surf the webpages? Is this required, what does this do and how come its not set automatically? Does this have to be set within opera if I download this browser?

I apologize if these have been answered before, they are more likely curisosity questions then anything else. As I have found the technical answer to them, just not sure why.

Thanks.

Also, is there a shortcut I can add to the main screen for SMS Text messages-instead of just messages? Everytime I click on messages it wants to create a e-mail.

Without a BlackBerry Data Plan, you should be get charged for any Internet usage, since you should not be able to get on the Internet.

T-Mobile tells you it takes 2-48 hours for an account change to take. My personal experience is much closer to the 2 hours (if it was entered right).

Only T-Mobile has the built in Messaging client. And it uses SMS text message units, so some don't like it.

Read the Sticky Threads in the General BlackBerry Discussion forum please - lots of information on WAP.VOICESTREAM.COM and when you need it... TO use third party apps and TCP data (like BBWeather or BBToday) you need the APN data entered.

To have a seperate icon for SMS you will need to investigate a different Them which may have a specific icon for SMS. Please check out the Ringtones, Themes and Wallpapers section.

Good luck and welcome!

OK I will check out the FAQ, I think that was the only thing I haven't read yet! .

I don't quite understand your first sentence, I have unlimited data + text - but I don't really know what the difference between a IM application that uses either data or text? Is one slower then the other or something?

I don't know how much a biscuit load

The original 600 minute plan (not BlackBerry) does not allow you to use ANY Internet/data functions. So you can't get charged for not using something.

You got Internet access after the switch was made.

At least that's my interpretation of events.
