Hello everyone, I am new to these forums and am trying to get some quick information. I am thinking of getting the pearl for my girlfriend for Christmas and finally checked out a demo yesterday. I know she will not like the way it tries to figure out what u are typing. Is there a way to change a setting or download a program that turns that off and turns the keys to something similar to a standard cell keyboard where u hit the key twice for a letter? So since there is a button for both q and w, hitting the key once for q and twice for w. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, you can change from suretype to multi-tap.

Yes, it has "multi-tap." However, with a few minutes of practice with the "SureType" you will definitely like SureType. All you do is type your words...finish the word before you decide it's wrong. It knows the word you want by the time you get to the end of the word. I can type as fast (maybe even faster) with SureType than with a standard Qwerty-and for sure faster than double-tap! The Pearl is an awesome phone!

Please don't disable Suretype before giving her the Pearl - she may adapt to it very quickly and lose a great feature.

It only takes a few days to get used to Suretype. Tap seems so, cell phone ish....

In any field where you can type text, just press and hold the "sym/*" key. That will change it back and forth. Obviously the sales person knew nothing of SureType otherwise he/she could show you how well it works. It truly does work quite well.

Yeah, I used to use multi-tap with my old phone, but SureType kicks the snot out of it.

Got a question about SureType? Will it work the same for the spanish language as it does with the english?

Definitely. I type messages in English and Spanish all day long. In the Pearl, you hold down the ALT key, then press ENTER, then while still holding down the ALT scroll with the trackball to the language you want to select.
