Red face No ringtone stand alone or with ear bud -Pearl

Please Login to Remove!

Hi all! I am hoping someone can advise me. I have a new Blackberry Pearl. I edited my modes - normal and loud. In the "phone" edit area I chose vibrate and tone, tune_fever, high, LED flashing, and # vibrations 3.

My phone vibrates and shows the incoming phone call on the screen but doesn't play the tune.

In addition, does anyone know how to get the phone to play a tune outloud when an ear bud is used? I don't keep my earbud in my ear when I'm not on the phone, but prefer this hands-free method.

Thanks for your help!

The 'vibrate and tone' option is disceiving. It means that the phone will vibrate, THEN ring. So if you have it set for 3 vibrations, you will probably miss the call before it has time to ring.

Default No Sound

Thanks for the reply! I tried changing the number of vibrations to 1, and then to tone only. I'm still not getting any sound. I must have hit another setting that somehow mutes the phone's sound. Any ideas?

Also, any thoughts about the ear bud thing? It drives me crazy to have to remove the ear bud from the phone just to hear it ring, only to have to plug it back in again to use it for a call. I prefer to keep it connected. Then I can answer the phone and quickly shove in the ear bud, vs. answering the phone and telling the caller to hold on...

Go back to the phone settings in your profile and make sure 'Do Not Disturb' is set to 'No'.

As for the ear bud, I don't know. I use a bluetooth headset and it rings on both the phone and the headset.

Default Found the answer!!

I called t-mobile and got sent to RIM. Turns out I needed to remove the battery, wait for a couple of minutes, put the battery back in, turn on phone, reconnect wireless, now the sound works fine! And, I do get an external ring when the ear bud is plugged in. And, since my tune is fever, I get cool disco lights on my track ball! Thanks for the advice! Nice to know there are helpful people out there. Have a great day!

Not to chime in on every thread, but....

Generally whenever you have problems with the Pearl, meaning it is acting up in some way, always go through the battery reset procedure, sometimes as many as three times if the problem is not fixed on the first reset try.

Many problems occur simply because that little Pearl OS is doing lots of things nowadays, besides phone and e-mail functions. Eventually the Pearl goes bonkers and needs to reboot, just like people need to do by the time each weekend arrives.

Amen. The Pearl is a bit more sensitive than my 7130 and 7100.
