I bought my Blackberry Pearl about 1 month ago. At the time of the purchase I was told that I could get

myFaves 600 SmartAccess
BlackBerry Unlimited Data SmartAccess

but now after a lot of miscommunication between store reps and tmobile I now have

Basic Plus SmartAccess
BlackBerry Unlimited Data SmartAccess

Is there a way I can get the MSN/Yahoo/AIM/ICQ Instant Message to work without the DATA plan? Also if I switch to a Hosted BES will I still need to the data plan? I don't care for the web browsing at all. Oh yeah is there a way to use the GPS without the data plan?

You guys have been the greatest with the information on this forum. Before I bought my Pearl I searched this site everyday for about 2months

Without a BlackBerry Data Plan, all you have is voice and SMS text.

If you want ANY data - hosted BES, BIS, browsing, IM, you will need the Data Plan.

Yes the blackberry pearl comes with an OZ Instant Message app, that includes AIM/YAHOO/MSN/ICQ. Can anyone else shed some light?

Also I find it hard to believe I have to be subscribed to a data plan in order to have enterprise email.

Actually, the IM that comes with your phone does use SMS so you should be able to use it without a data plan.

However, you do need a data plan to have it on your phone though. I have heard people not having IM on their phone because they did not sign up for a data plan.

But once it is download to your phone, you should be able to use it without a data plan.

Yeah I have the program installed now and im using it and have noticed under my tmobile account info that it is using SMS to send and receive instant messages, so im good to go there I guess.

How can I backup programs individually?

There's an ADVANCED button in the DM if you click on that you can select what things you want to back up and also choose stuff you want to delete off of it too.
