One of my friends has a Pearl with a problem I haven't seen posted..

when he powers off the pearl (airplane), he can't just power on, he has to pull the battery and reseat it, else the SIM card is not recognized.. he does NOT reseat the SIM card, just the battery

has anyone else seen this? Should he take it back for exchange?

Does he power off using the red phone button? If you push and hold that it will power the unit off. Turning it back on you just push the red phone buttong again. If it keeps doing it then yes, have it serviced or replaced.

BTW no expert here, but when flying could you not just turn the wireless off and leave the BB on? Allowing you to view things already on the BB. Then once off the plan turn the wireless back on? Saves you powering off and on?

I'm with turning off the wireless, but only after the plane is at cruising altitude can you use any device. So I've been told....so if I'm wrong, don't flame me too hard.

I turn off the wireless on my 8700.. he is powering off (cause they told him too!..).. he is going to try the wireless approach, but wanted to get some advice on the power on problem..
