Almost everyone uses Outlook, but some people use Lotus Notes, Novell Groupwise or Act!. These are supported out of the box. With extra software, you can get it to sync to other PIMs. For instance, I use Companion Link to sync to Palm Desktop, since that's pretty much the thing about the Treo I didn't want to give up, and I hate Outlook. It works flawlessly, but Companion Link is not cheap. Mac users are able to sync with iCal and Address Book.

Yes, but you have to go to CompanionLink Software, Inc. - Data synchronization for Pocket PC, Windows Mobile, Palm, and BlackBerry handheld devices and get their software, which is a bit steep in price, but works flawlessly.

I synch with Outlook (not Outlook Express) and it works fine. I wish that Desktop Manager came with its own contact list in case you didn't have Outlook ($$) or you wanted different contact on your Pearl than you had in Outlook.

Yeah, it's weak, and it would be cheap to include it. How much can a contact list be? To make you mess with other software has to be some sceme between RIM and MS or something.
