Default Cingular pearl questions

Please Login to Remove!

i was just at the cingular store looking at thier phones(time to renue plan) and i am really liking the pearl. but i like to research what i buy before hand, hence im here. I went into the store with a couple of cingular phones in mind but i mostly wanted to check out the 8100 in person.

first the pearl is 249.99 but then you get a 49.99 MiR but the guy working says you have to get the blackberry plan in order to be eligibable. that is a $40 data plan of somekind. but i do not want a data plan yet(still in school for the next 5months, will get one once i graduate and get a real job) I just want the phone and to beable to upgrade my plan once i have a better income stream. looking around this forum i see that there are other types of data plans with different prices, anyone know the deal with this blackberry plan that the guy at the store said id have to get? has any one had any luck with an unlocked pearl?

also, this guy was not a fan of the pearl mostly because of it being on a 2g network and kept pointing me towards 3g phones(the blackjack would be one of these, but i dont like the bj.) he compared 2g to dial up. can anyone tell me the real time speeds in surfing, the differences between 2g/3g and if you think your pearl is slow on the internet?

i really like the asthetics of the pearl compared to other similar phones and i do not want another flip phone and a phone with out a fuller keyboard.

any help answering my questions would be great..

if you want a 3g phone you should try to wait off if you are going to be in school for 5 months cause another Blackberry or phone might come out with 3G and you might like it.

I have a pearl and I love it but I have a data plan. I don't know how much fun it will be to have without a data plan.

For what it's worth I don't have a Pearl but do have a 8700c and you will need a data plan in order to surf the web and access emails. There is a cingular data plan (unlimited data) for $29.99. He should have told you about that plan.
