Question Make T-Mobile Pearl act like Cingular Pearl

Please Login to Remove!

I have used the new Cingular firmware update and much to my dismay the OS still looks like T-Mobile. I would like to change it so that everything about it acts like a Cingular Pearl. I have seen the thread to add PTT but some of the internet stuff and the IM does not work. I also get an email that is from 1121611611 and states "453 Error Invalid Number. please re-send using a valid 10 digit mobile number." I would like to know what that is and how to fix it as well. Other than that, the new OS seems to be working very good. Is there any wat to change the vendor id or fool the firmware in to think that the Vendor ID 100 is actually the 102? Thanks for your help!

jawyman - It will take a lot of work, but here's what you should try.

First load the Cingular OS and delete the vendor.xml file. Search for it in program files/common files/research in motion.

Then, find the Blackberry.alx file in program files/common files/research in motion.shared/loader files/8100-v4.2.0.69_P2.2.0.40. Open the file using word pad or note pad.

Now, find all of the places where the vendorID = "102" and change it to "100." This will cause all of the Cingular stuff to load onto the device when you upgrade the software. If you want to get rid of the tmobile stuff as well, change all instances where vendorID = "100" to something other than 100.

Then run the apploader.

Just curious (I have a T-M Pearl): WHat is the difference between the T-M and Cingular Pearls? (Haven't seen one from Cingular yet.) Not sure what to look for (i.e., where the differences are). Thx.

Hey Jibi,

Is this the same thing you did to the Blackberry.alx files in the other threads?

Thank you for your quick reply. Will this change all of the settings to Cingular's? How about the T-Zones icon on the MEdiaNet Browser and the startup splash? Do you think that this will install PTT or do I still need the Platform.alx file?

I did my T-mobile Pearl using the cingular OS and I do have the Push to Talk icon. But keep in mind that is not going to work on T-Mobile's network. My startup splash screen still says T-Mobile, and I still have the T-Zones icon. And no you will not get Media Net, that is Cingular specific.

I am on Cingular. I am trying to get the settings for Cingular. I keep getting weird emails. I assume that they are from t-mobile because they tell me to try again using a valid 10 digit phone number. When you did this, did you use the modified Platform.alx file?

Once a TMobile BB, always a TMobile BB. You can't change the startup splash or any of that stuff. If you modify the platform.alx, or use Jibi's, you can have the PTT for Cingular but the vendor information is hard coded to the device. Don't know about the error.

I was hoping that you could fool the OS and make it think that the 100 was the Cingular phone.
