Greetings all. I don't post much but read the forum almost every day. I just bought a Cingular pearl. I was one of those guys that swore up and down that I'd never buy one, coming from a 8700. Then I bought one for my wife and got hooked! Even suretype wasn't as bad as I thought. I'm not quite up to 8700 speed yet, but I've only had the phone a week and I'm at about 70% of my old speed.

Also, don't know if this is good or bad, but an unintended consequence or benefit of the pearl for me is that now when I'm home, I do less office work. There's something about the 8700 that made me want to bring too much work home.

So I still get all my mail, answer the ones I NEED to, have more family time (including taking lots of pics of my little girl), and all this from a device that actually fits in my pocket! I'm listening to a podcast on it as I post this! Awesome.

Typed on my pearl,
Carlton

Hey Carlton,

Glad you're happy with your purchase. I have contemplated purchasing the Pearl a few times since it first came out. At first I as well claimed I would never purchase the Pearl. Now however since we're so close to the 8800's release I'll be holding out for it however now that the girlfriend has played around with the Pearl she wants one so I might have one in the house sooner than later.

Default I concur!

I've been using PDA's and smartphones from WAY BACK. Cut my teeth on some old casio organizers and sharp wizards...

More recently, I've been using PocketPC phones and they're o.k. When my company migrated off Verizon to Cingular, I had to get a new smartphone and decided to try the pearl.

Wow -- I am very impressed. It's SO small/light. The bb applications are fast and efficient. I love the unified inbox approach that bb uses, and this thing is rock solid stable. I easily get through a day of heavy email/phone use on a single charge. I had to soft reset my pocketpc and palm phones every couple of days 'cause they'd freeze or start behaving strangely, and the pocketPC device battery life was poor.

This phone is terrific at for one-handed operation, and I really like the feel of the keys. I've only been using sure-type for a little over a week, and I'm ~80% of the speed/accuracy of a full/mini keyboard. I expect I'll hit 100% (or faster) within another week or two.

My only complaint: My company uses BES policies to lock-down the device. Can't install new apps and can't get to a lot of websites I like. Fortunately, I loaded the key 3rd party apps I need (bible, splashID, etc.) before deploying BES. IT doesn't have this ability with the Palm and PocketPC devices we use...

Kudos to bb on a job well done -- I think I'm a convert!
