Ok everyone, since I'm bored and had nothing to do (yeah right) I tried to bring back the auto-dim feature by taking these .cod's from .42 and got very close but didn't quite work. I moved the following .cod's:

net_rim_bb_options.cod
net_rim_bb_options_app.cod
net_rim_bbapi_options.cod

After doing this I got the option back in the screen/keyboards and I could change it on/off but the selection wouldn't stick after saving. Anybody have any ideas? Did I miss a .cod/other file? Is it just not possible? Im reloading my unmodified .69 now since it wouldn't work. I'll just try the simulator.

Nice work getting it to work even for a brief bit. I'm not familiar with the 8100 files so I won't be much help there. Great job though, this will make a lot of people happy if you get this to work successfully.

there should be an auto dim cod someplace since that is a separate option no?

I got the option to show in screen/keyboard and could even change it but it wouldn't save. When I'd go back in it would be set to "on" again. I'm just wondering if it would work if I moved any other files over. It's a whole software update when you change those .cod's so it takes quite a while to try.

I figured it would be faster with the simulator so I downloaded that. I get the same problem in the simulator. I can get the option back and can change it from on to off but when I save, exit and return it's back on again.

Wonder if there is an associated database it needs that doesn't get created by the cod(s) you installed?

I still have the same problem...I get the .cod's over and and get the options back but can't get the "off" selection to stay. There must be something I'm missing...(or something RIM wants me to miss.) I guess it's just not that easy.

Keep at it. I hate that mine dims and brightens in almost no change of indoor lighting. I will be super happy if you (or anyone else) finds a way to turn it off!

I am perfectly OK to live with it if you (or anyone else) never finds a way to turn in off though.

Anyone ever notice that the pictures are dim because the auto dim kicks in before you can take a picture? If i hold my Pearl up to a light then take a picture, it seems brighter. Just wondering if anyone else is experiencing this. I will be downgrading until there is a software fix for the auto dim.

Is there a way to downgrade back to the original OS? And if so, where can one find the file(s) to do so?

Yes you can all you have to do is uninstall the os from your computer, use the javaloader.exe program to wipe your Blackberry and then install .42 os on your computer and run app loader on desktop manager. This will put os .42 back on your Blackberry. I did this and it is nice to be able to turn off the auto dim. Although I do get some java errors once in awhile but i can live with them until there is a software fix for the auto dim problem in the new os. Hope this helps.
